Phase 2 panic!

Am I imagining this? I started Phase 2 today. I had 1/3 cup of oatmeal for breakfast and about 6oz of V8 juice. After 2 painless weeks on Phase 1 w/o preoccupation with food, hunger or cravings, I am thinking about food today and all I want is candy!

Is it a coincindence that I added carbs back and the cravings returned? Am I imagining it? Or is the advent of my TOM (due to start Monday) that is making me want sweets so badly? Maybe it is all of these things, but I am now scared of phase 2. I was perfectly happy on Phase 1 and did not lose as much as I'd hoped (4 pounds!), so maybe I'll go back there a little while longer.

Did anyone else have trouble transitioning into Phase 2?

It could be your TOM cravings (happens to me every month) but could also be oatmeal is a "trigger" food for you.

Remember - you should be eating a good fat with your oatmeal.

I found the same thing when I first started eatng oatmeal at breakfast. I found that adding some chopped up pecans to the oatmeal helped to curb the craving.

Oatmeal does that to me too!

I have cut it out of my diet too because it is a trigger food for me too. I really want some on this blissfully snowy morning, but I am going to wait until I get ready to get out of the house and do busy stuff. I simply CAN NOT eat oatmeal when I will be around the house for a while!!!

Funny, I really thought I was a bit strange there with that Oatmeal Reaction!

Jessica

Ps. I will have mine just before we go out sledding!!!

Me too. I get cravings too, I have even added p-butter in it and get the same cravings. I just wonder if I am extra sensitive to carbs---I don't eat bread, pasta or rice only occassionally a WASA cracker and it has been a good 4 months with this WOE. The only thing I wonder if it could be the Oatmeal brand. I used the Quaker Oats slow cook, but I just found the McCanns steel oats so I will try that and see if I get the same reaction. You might want to try it for dinner instead of breakfast sometime--I find if I put the carbs in the evening it is much better.

Yes, I remember Dr. Agatston saying that he explains carbs on an empty stomach to be like drinking on an empty stomach, it affects you more. That the way to block it is by having foods with either fiber, fat, protein or an acid food since they all slow down the absorption of the sugar or starch. The McCann's steel cut oatmeal is very good because of the fiber. Just takes a while to cook. I think you can soak it overnight to speed cooking along. Add a piece of lowfat cheese and the carb craving should be curbed. Also I think he mentioned eating the carbs later in the day too. It is scary though to add any more carbs in Phase Two. It's great to have this diet that explains how to do it.
