this is my first post on ivillage. im just looking for somebody to talk to who knows what theyre talking about- somebody who might be able to understand. this is just a kind of vent.

Hello and welcome. I am Beth, one of the cls here. I am also an alcoholic. I wish I could explain why someone gets sober and someone doesn't. It has NOTHING to do with how lovable you are and EVERYTHING to do with how unlovable your father feels he is. You didn't do anything wrong to make him drink, and there is nothing you can do 'right' to get him to stop. This webpage has more information

I was a drinking alcoholic FOREVER about 21 years....I haven't drank in 3.9 years.
I can tell you....People told me all the time I was hurting them...I honestly could not believe it....I couldn't see it...I thought they were exaggerating and trying to trick me into stopping drinking.
