The place I went to treatment at offered a family weekend. My brother and daughter attended. I truly credit that weekend for being a crucial part of my recovery. My brother was able to gain an understanding he just didn't have before. He learned how to be there for me and when to step back for himself. While he doesn't understand fully and I am grateful for that as that would mean he was an addict as well he can empathize.

I assume this is similiar to what others get out of al-anon but if you can get your loved ones to attend something it truly may make the difference you need.

Having that support is so nice! My husband is also a recovering alcoholic. Although it does make things tense at times, most of the time it is just plain wonderful
