McDonald's french fries do not belong

...at the GYM!  OMG!!!  Talk about torture.  McDonald's fries are a true weakness for me (they are a LARGE part of the reason I gained over 60 lbs during pregnancy).  I haven't had ANY (that I can remember) since starting SBD.

A lady brought her 2 small kids to the gym with her.  The kids were running around the track with her screaming.  I couldn't even get upset that they distracted me from my workout, because I know DD would act the same way.

Anyway, once I finished my workout, I hit the track to cool down, and when I reached the little lounge area (it's not separate from the track), I smelled it before I saw it.  There were 2 little Happy Meals on the table unattended.  The smell was wonderful and disgusting at the same time.  I can't deny that the smell was inviting, but then the thought of eating french fries made me want to throw up at that moment.

Again I ask, why were there McDonald's fries at the gym?  It seems like it should just be illegal to bring in that food.  Only non-fragrant food allowed!

My small vent for the afternoon.

I agree Erica, but I'd be even more ticked about the screaming kids running around in the gym.

I don't believe I have ever seen a McDonald's in a hospital.

It's not a public gym, just the one onsite at my husband's company.

Some things I have seen at my gym:

Trainers often sitting at their desks (which are right on the main floor of the gym in view of everyone working out) eating Sonic/Whataburger, etc. - burger, fries and all. They also had a poster/ad on the wall for Jack In the Box for awhile. I did feature a salad - but I still didn't like the idea of a gym in partnership with a fast food place. And my favorite - for membership appreciation day, they handed out free PIZZA (no, not whole wheat or low-fat - Domino's pepperoni!)

At the Children's Hospital here, they don't have a cafeteria...just a McDonald's on site.

Talk about sad.

Once, a member wrote a nasty letter saying she saw a staff member carrying a Wendy's bag (it might have been a salad for all she knew!) and was annoyed by it. So we are not allowed to eat in view of the members at all...not that I have ever seen one of my trainer colleagues eat anything remotely unhealthy at work. The other staff, well...*cough*

A few months ago I was eating a perfectly healthy lunch at work when several members of senior management actually started making fun of my healthy food like in grade school. So if your gym has cross promos with fast food joints, etc. usually the management is thinking about $$$, not about the well-being of the members. Generally the management team are sales people, not health & fitness people. And most other people who work at a gym really do NOT think about how their actions might look to others. Personally, I never, EVER eat junk food at work (I work at a gym and teach piano to young children). If it really bothers you, get a bunch of members together and complain as a group.

At our gym even the trainers are just glorified sales people. They spend more time soliciting people who are working out trying to talk them into services than actually training (I've had to be VERY blunt with a few to leave me alone while I'm working out). And they have to have more "sales" training than actual fitness knowledge (they get a weekend course and that's it for their "certification") I actually considered getting into personal training for awhile, so I looked into the company's who are at the big gyms here and they were all disappointing. There are a couple who are really good - but the majority are just 18 year old jocks who think they are "in shape" because they are athletic/play sports.
