Hi! I'm Sarah...I am just getting started with SB (day 2) and came to check this board out! :o)
I did Atkins a few years ago with wonderful success (until I stopped) but never felt good about the plan and honestly, I wasn't well supported by my family. Not that they didn't want me to succeed, just that they didn't like the plan. So after reading the SB book, I've decided to give it a try. :o) I'm pretty excited about it as the first day was way easy for me. I even turned down birthday cake at work! Of course, I don't have a huge sweet tooth so that helps. It's the bread/pasta/potatoes that get me. lol. But so far, so good.
I've got a long road ahead of me (I'd like to lose about 120 lbs) but I think my dh will be behind me on this. He was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and although his meds have brought his blood sugar under control he said to me just last night that he wonders when his dr will take him off and just do diet control. He has some blood pressure issues too so I'd love for him to be able to get healthy with this too. He seems pretty receptive. I can't control what he eats when he's at work but I can be sure he has some yummy and healthy food when he's at home. :o)
It's going to be an adjustment...but I think it will be easier because we've already cut fast food and soda out so we don't have to contend with that.
We've set up a home gym in our little out building (it's like a MIL apartment) and we're both excited to have that convenience in our own backyard. :o) Even our daughter is excited about it (she's 7)! She tried some of the dinner I made last night and said it was okay (she's a mac n cheese junkie...I'd like to get her eating more proteins too. any tips?? At least she likes her veggies. :o)). We're a pretty open family and she knows that mom and dad are trying to get healthier. I think she could be a drill sargent/personal trainer if I let her...lol.
So, in a nutshell, I'd like to lose about 120. My dh (Joe) would like to lose probably 85. Our dd (Caity) isn't overweight at all...she's got rock hard abs, in fact (she's a little fitness freak already...lol). But her eating habits could improve a lot...or else she *will* end up overweight and I don't want that for her.
I hope to find much support here (and by the looks of what I've lurked through it seems you're a good supportive group) and much success for us all.
Nice to meet you!
Sarah
