Look at the difference...
12

I haven't been around in a few weeks, but I've still been faithfully following the plan (or at least as closely as I can!).  I was pondering the other day, while grocery shopping at the differences in my life.  I thought I would share a few...

Pre-January 7th:

average weekly groceries:

2% milk, cheese, hamburger, sugar cereals, bread, potatoes, tater-tots, mac & cheese, ramen noodles, a few canned vegetables, canned soups, juice, soda, cookies, jell-o, cake mix or two, etc.

New weekly groceries:

Fat-free milk, fat-free plain yogurt, FF cottage cheese, FF sour cream, skim mozarella cheese, light string cheese, boneless skinless chicken, turkey bacon, eggs, an occasional steak, salmon, whole grain rice, lots of fruit and veggies, etc.

Pre-January 7th:

common snacks while driving (which is often because of where we live):

diet, caffeinated soda, candy bar, chips to munch on, etc.

snack we use now:

water, occasionally nuts, v-8 juice, string cheese

Pre-January 7th:

exercise: none

Now:

yoga at least once a week, usually more like 3 x a week, and lots more walking.

Pre-January 7th:

size of jeans: I couldn't fit into any that I owned, and 18's were the largest I owned.

Now:

Just bought and fit into a size 16!!

Not even focusing on the pounds, as you can see, my life is very different than it was a few months ago!  I feel better, look better and have a lot more energy to keep up with my kids!  I love this new way of life and can't ever imagine going back!

Speaking of going through the check out line with healthy food - Does anyone ever feel like they completely confuse the cashier? I sweat, its like a nightmare sometimes. Usually I will have a lot of items from the "health food" section - like cereals, Kashi frozen stuff, etc. I swear half the time it isn't even in the system and they need a price check. Then they can't find it because its not on the regular cereal or frozen aisle, its in the health food section. Then when we get to the produce - look out. Its like I have to give them a botany lesson: "No, those are zucchini, not cucumber. Yes, that is an artichoke - be careful of the thorns. No, that is swiss chard, not collard greens." Gosh forbid I try and check out with something like jicama or broccoli rabe. Now granted, I didn't have this issue in CA, its only really been here in TX, but even though people in CA certainly didn't always eat healthy, there was more emphasis on fresh produce there in general. Here its like these kids have never seen a real vegetable come through the check out line!

LOL!! I get that all the time as well. They ask what it is then have to look it up on the price charts... if I was smart enough, I should of told them it was something that didn't cost as much and saved a few pennies! ;)

Yeah - I am often tempted to do that too, especially when they try and ring up my asparagus as celery or something!

Oh - and squash - especially spaghetti squash always throws them off. I've had people try and ring it up as melon!
