Do Others Help or Hinder You?
This Week's Assignment

You've already been sharing your triumphs and struggles with us. But do you feel like you have enough support from other people in your life to succeed in your health and weight-loss goals? Ask yourself the following:

  1. How supportive is my spouse or partner, my kids, my parents, friends, or co-workers? Do I feel like they are enthusiastic and helping to push me forward, or that I'm pretty much on my own?
  2. Do I have a friend I can confide in? Is there anyone who is subtly undermining my success?
Tell us about the people who are supporting you during this weight loss journey. Talk about why their positive attitudes are so important to you. Also, think about the people in your life who may be undermining your success. Map out a dialogue of what you could say to them to help change the situation.

Good Luck this week everyone!

Good Morning -

Both my DH and sons are very supportive of my working out.

I'm not super vocal about my dieting, mostly because I'm not technically overweight and I find that people aren't very supportive if they don't think you need to lose weight.

DH has been supersupportive - - he is doing this with me (for the most part - - I think he eats some illegal stuff at work!), and is working out with me several times a week.

Actually for me, it is so much easier now that DH has to lose weight and is following the diet now with me.

I don't really have a huge support system. My DH doesn't intentionally try to sabatoge me but he eats what he wants when he wants it. I cook mostly SB approved and he generally eats it without complaint but he does alot of snacking around the house and wanting to eat out. He also isn't good about giving me time away from my boys to exercise. I keep trying to get him on the SB bandwagon, since he has weight to lose to, but no luck so far.

As far as my support, obviously, this board. I don't post alot but I lurk all the time and get lots of menu ideas. And I CL another IV board. They are great support and a few are diet buddies of mine. We post to each other daily about food and exercise.

Fortunately, I am generally surrounded by people that are very supportive or that at least don't try to undermine my attempts to lead a healthy lifestyle.

"They try to get me to treat myself a lot, but it is mostly because they think I have lost all my weight I need to lose and they again look at this as a diet and not a way of eating for life."

Hi Erica,

It sounds like they haven't made the connection with what it takes to maintain.

Co-workers/friends aren't exactly supportive, because they do bring
