Hi Cathy and to all that might remember my sign-on.....
Several years ago it was as if I was a spokesperson for South Beach. I read this board everyday and I lost over 50 pounds quite effortlessly. I even went a whole year without a slice of pizza. Well, I gained the weight back, and made a second attempt before my 40th. birthday adjusting what I had done previously to include more good carbs so I wouldn't come to eventually binge. I also did well and lost about 20 pounds well before my 40th. I'm back for a 3rd. attemptl..........I gained back my weight, plus much more and I am really frustrated. Been doing this practically my whole life and I'm now almost 42. I know it's a lifestyle change, but I just can't seem to stay with what works. Cathy......how have you managed not to fall back into old habits? Any words of wisdom would be a great help.
Thank you.

Hi, and welcome back to the board.
Hi and welcome back! I started here 3 yrs ago in 2003, lost 67lbs and have maintained that for 2 years now. I must have just missed meeting you before.
Maybe if we knew more the how and why you got off track, we could give you some suggestions. For me, I've never really "fallen off" in 3 years. I have occasional planned treats - but they are limited and controlled so that I am still able to easily maintain. I can't even begin to list all the things that keep me on track - a few of them:
- junk food now makes me literally ill (vomiting, diarrhea, etc.)because my body is so used to being "clean"
- my tastes have changed and anything with sugar or "grease" just tastes nasty and feels like it coats my mouth - blech
- I've developed such negative feelings toward unhealthy food I actually made a comment to someone the other day that I would be no more willing to allow my ds to bring Girl Scout cookies into my house than cigarettes - same thing to me now honestly
- South Beach correted so many of my problems that I don't ever want to go back and no food is worth it - it improved my marriage, my parenting, cured my depression, IBS, lowered my cholesterol, blood sugar and high blood pressure, inspired me to go back to school by proving to me that I could do anything I put my mind to, etc.
- I've never gotten bored or feel deprived by using a variety of foods, always trying new recipes, and having planned occasional treats
I've managed to stay on track through a move across the country, dh losing his job, my mother passing away, starting back to college full time, etc. - because this is just "normal" to me now, its just who I am and how I eat. South Beach IS my habit now, if that makes any sense!
Maybe we can give you some better suggestions of what has worked for us if we know the circumstances that got you off track?

Hi!
Welcome back!
Just want to let you know that you are not alone. I've been struggling to get back on track for a few months. I'm not sure what my problem is lately but it's just not clicking for me. I'm not giving up and I've managed to maintain my current weight so maybe something is working for me.
We have both done it in the past and we'll
how have you managed not to fall back into old habits?
Thank you Lisa and Maggie for all the wonderful suggestions.
