I've never had that happen! When I buy a jar of natural pb, I store it in my pantry upside down. When I open it, I give it a thorough stir with a butter knife...it takes a long time to make sure that all the oil is incorporated. After that, I keep it in the refrigerator and it's usually pretty soft and easy to scoop out.

The brand I buy (Kroger brand NPB) doesn't do this.

Did you try warming it in the microwave?

I also use the microwave, 10-40 second, depending upon how full the jar is.

Never had it happen either as long as the oil was stirred in really well. If I let dh do it, he always misses those bottom corners - then I get stuff at the bottom that is hard. Even when I soften it or warm it up, it is still very "dry" tasting, so I just toss it.
