egg beaters/whites vs whole eggs

So, I made my quiche cups with a couple egg whites and a couple whole eggs. First time I've ever done that. Gotta say, don't like them much. This morning, I didn't reheat those and instead I ate scrambled whole eggs w/my veggies.

So, is it a big deal if I hate egg whites and just want to go all whole egg? I find the texture and flavor to be seriously altered in those cups. I won't waste them. I'll make myself eat them for the rest of the week. But I don't want to make them this way again.

Also, I have a SERIOUS mental aversion to buying "egg substitues" and so I've never done so. How much like real scrambled eggs are they?

The only reason to limit eggs is if you have a cholesterol problem or your doctor has recommended it.

We use egg beaters every morning, and have gotten to the point where we like them better than eggs, especially when you consider the other factors in eggs -- the cholesterol (which DH has to watch) and the calories/fat are a bit higher too.

So, then answer then, is that I can do whole eggs if I want and it's not the end of the world. But if I can do so, developing a taste for egg beaters would be good?

I'll probably stick with whole eggs for a while (and NOT just egg whites. Shudder) and then as I progress, I'll cut that one more thing out of my diet and replace it.

I say eat the whole eggs if you like them--there's no point in eating something that you don't like!

I buy the omega-3 eggs from walmart that have 350 mg of Omega-3s per egg, plus less saturated fat and cholesterol than regular eggs.

I only use the egg substitute in the quiche cups.

I am a huge lover of egg substitute. I started using it three years ago and have never went back to eggs.

I first made the switch from real eggs to the egg substitute because of the high cholesterol (although I have never had a problem with my cholesterol) and high fat (5 g in 1 and who eats just 1?) content in eggs. I guess now I figure why go back to that?
I actually really like egg sub. better than real eggs now. For some reason something about real eggs is a bit gross to me, (I always had to take that white stringy thing out), so the egg substitute is great. I have 1/2 cup every morning with about 1 cup of veggies (bell pepper, scallion, garlic & mushrooms) mixed in and I LOVE it! I will get almost any brand....Egg Beaters, Egg Starters, or even store brand (what ever is on sale). I have seen the egg whites but have not ever tried them because I think they would not be so good.

Give egg substitutions a try, you may just like 'em. Also you can always do half real egg & half egg sub. or do that for awhile until you get used to them and make a gradual switch. Let us know what you think if you do try it.
