Is polenta SBD-approved for P2 or P3? I thought I'd read something about it a while ago, but when I do a search I only get two hits, one for grits, and one with a restaurant menu.

Sorry, I don't think polenta is approved, seeing as how it's made from corn. But I could be wrong...

Unfortunately, no. Polenta is made from corn meal, so its not allowed. Its one thing I really haven't found a replacement for. I used to eat it daily as a kid, then as an adult I made it about 2-3 times per week. I haven't had it since starting South Beach.

Joy, I did. Sorry I didn't post an FYI here, but I figured only a handful of you know me from when I was active on here last summer anyway, and besides, my new name isn't exactly SBD-friendly. ;-)

You know, I've never even had polenta before? I always though it looked like it would taste like grainy mashed potatoes, so I never had the desire to taste it. Of course, lately I've been wanting to try it and it's not sb friendly. Oh well!

Have you ever had a tamale? Its very similar to the corn part of the filling in a tamale.

When done right its very creamy - kind of cream of wheat-ish, but more flavor. My family is Italian so we had it for breakfast a lot, like grits. My grandma put milk, butter and sugar on it for us. We also had it as a side with meals - either "soft" and under stew or meat dishes that were very saucy or we had it fried into "cakes" on the side.
