Stall-Question

Hey, guys....a question. I have read everything on stalls that I have seen here........my question is is it actually possible that I am eating too few calories?  In general, I am eating between 1200 and 1500 on most days. Based on my current weight 189 and age, 40, I believe I should be eating 1800 calories to lose weight(this according to websites that have those calculators for you to use to figure out how much you should be eating). I am getting in all my grains, fruits and veggies and dairy most days....and I am not hungry so I am not eating anything extra unless I still have sbd requirements that I haven't met in any given day.  I have my annual physical tomorrow...good timing, hunh? So i am going to ask the doctor what he thinks, but I thought I pick your brains as well. I have been stalled and hovering at 189/190 since about the second week i n december....I have not given up on eating th sbd way nor do i intend to because I feel healthier than I have in years. I have switched up  foods, and exercizes and exercized harder one day , then lighter the next, cut down on my cheese, thinking it was too high in fat, I'm at a loss.  I was just so excited to lose the first 35 # that I can't wait to lose more...any ideas on the calorie theory? Thanks for any suggestions or ideas you have,

Shannon

I'll be it could be something with the calories...if you don't eat enough, then your body hangs onto what you have.

That's a pretty big stall, around 3 months.

Hi Shannon,

I think it's great to incorporate a lot of variety into your exercise choices, and to keep mixing it up.

I think calories are a funny thing. As much as it seems like there should be a "right" number for everyone to lose weight, it doesn't seem to work that way. I actually GAINED most of my weight eating about 1200 calories per day (it was usually one big meal of 1200 calories of junk) Most of my time on South Beach I ate about 1600-1800 per day along with 1.5hrs of exercise 5 days per week. I lost steadily, never had a true stall and well surpassed my goal weight. Now on "maintenance" I eat about 2000-2200 calories per day. I think I would curl up in a ball and cry if I only ate 1200. I'd be dizzy, shaky, headachy, unable to focus or function, etc. But we have some people here who need to eat 1200 calories to lose.

I think many, many people err on the side of eating too few calories, then their body goes into starvation mode, and they stall. Then they end up damaging their metabolism. I would just be careful of that.

but maybe I'll ask cathy how to count something like that...

Shannon,

There's no way to determine exactly how many veggies you're getting in a cup of veggie soup made with v8.

Maggie,

Thanks for all the great advice. You seem to have hit the nail on the head so to speak. The doctor advised me to continue to eat the sbd way and said that 1200-1500 calories is fine as long as I'm not hungry and am getting in all I need to get it(fruits, veggies, grains, dairy, etc.) He advised that I drastically up my exercise level and intensity. He said instead of biking 3 miles, bike 6 and maybe up my intesity level by hills, speed etc. or he said fo for a 3 mile bike ride and then do an exercise video(one that really gets my cardio up is best). He also advised to mix things up a bit and
