Phase 2 ???s

I'm a SBD newbie...I'm Day 9 of Phase I and down 9 lbs so far.  I'm thrilled with that.  I'm starting to think about how I'm going to handle Phase 2 and had some questions.  I really miss oatmeal  (steel cut is fine with me)which I'd love to have for breakfast...ideally I'd like to have it everday - not sure if that's good or not.   Should I have protein with it.   Also, I'd love to have fruit with it, but in the book he mentions not having fruit in the morning.  Can anyone give me advice how to possibly work these foods in and how often I can have them?

Another quesion.  I notice alot of people talking about what a specific SB serving is of grain, etc.  I've looked through the book, but don't see this...am I totally missing it??

Thanks!!

This thread may help, it gives you all the info you will need on starting phase 2, how to add in your grains/fruits, how many to have per day, etc.

But to quickly answer your questions - the first week of phase 2 you should introduce one grain and one fruit serving per day. So oatmeal every day for breakfast is fine. The next week you should have two grains and two fruits per day. You work up to having three servings of grains and three servings of fruit per day.

Yes - you should have some protein with your oatmeal, especially at first, to help slow digestion. You can read more about why in the link on carb competitors.

Fruit in the morning is different for everyone. For SOME people it causes cravings, others it doesn't. I have never had a problem having it in the morning. Once you get established in phase 2 you can experiment and see how it works for you.

The additional info on serving sizes comes from the South Beach Diet website. They have made many updates and additions to the diet (more specific guidelines for serving sizes, fiber requirements, detailed product guidelines, etc.) These are only available on the paid website. Hi, and congratulations on your success thus far!

Regarding phase 2...we have a great link called "Getting Started in Phase 2" which includes grain serving amounts.
