Diuretics/laxatives

Sorry if this is TMI, but I've been having problems lately both with bloating and constipation.  I was considering whether I should try an OTC diuretic or laxative to help deal with these problems.  I have heard lots of bad things about them, usually in the context of people overusing them when they have eating disorders.  Are they bad to use occasionally?  Are any of them better/more gentle than others?

I'm honestly not familiar with the OTC products.

Colace would be something you could try.

I have used them in the past, but it really becomes a bad cycle: you take the laxative which causes you to dehydrate, which causes constipation, so you take another laxitive.

Maybe you should try a probiotic supplement.

I have a diuretic that my gynecologist prescribed for my at my request. I don't use it often - maybe a couple times per year when I am feeling unusual water weight. I know that diuretics can be dangerous if overused.
