Challenge: Try a new food this week

I thought I would challenge everyone to try a new food this week.  Is there something you've been thinking about trying?  Maybe a new Morningstar product?  Maybe a new vegetable or fruit?  Let us know what you're going to try, then later in the week we can report back.

This is good for me! Thanks. I'll take it. I'll probably try a "veggie" burger or sausage of some kind. I won't touch them normally, but there are so many women in here who eat them and love them that there must be something to it!

I'm trying two new things this week:

Oikos Greek yogurt (per the raves here on the board and I happened to find a small 0% fat container at A&P).

Asian Morning Star Farms Patties (I already love the breakfast patties and the tomato basil patties).

I am going to try replacing regular italian sausage with the Boca Italian sausages for my baked ziti. I keep trying to slip veggie products in to my regular recipes and so far my husband knows every time! :-)

I found a new salad recipe yesterday which has jicama and pumpkin seeds. Two things I've never had. If I can find them this week, we'll try this and see how we like it.

Thanks for the challenge, Joy. Makes me feel adventurous!!!

Hooray! This was actually one of my goals for the month, to try at least one new food a week.

Last week was asparagus soup and chicken saltimbocca.

Indian Spiced Lentils..a recipe I found in the SB Diet Quick and Easy cookbook!

Now I have NEVER used lentils and have no idea if I am going to like this, but I am going to try it.

Although I *think* that I have eggplant before, I am certain I have never cooked with it. I plan to make Chicken & Eggplant Casserole (P1) from the SBD cookbook later this week. DH is not going to be happy about it - he hates trying new things - but he'll survive (or go hungry, LOL)! I'll let you all know how it turns out!

We tried lentils for the first time a few weeks ago...in a lentil vegetable soup. And it was great!!! DH said it was definitely a keeper, so I'll be making it more often.

I think I've finally gotten over my fear of trying new things. There have been a few things that we have tried that I don't know if I'll try again (eggplant is one of them, sorry), but we never would have known we didn't care for it if we hadn't tried it.

I'm glad that DH & DD have been on-board with trying new things since we started eating this way. It definitely helps to keep things interesting!!!
