Vegetable Garden Planted!

With the cost of veggies going up so much DH & I decided to plant our own. We both had gardens when we were growing up but this is the first one we planted. We just bought our house in December and it has an acre and a half so we finally have the room for a garden. YEAH! We have been working for over a month now getting the compost going and the garden mapped out. Yesterday we got the kids together and all went out and and planted every thing. It was fun!

I'm so excited to get the Garden in! We planted 3 different types of lettuces, spinach, 3 different types of onions, cucumbers, green beans, 3 different types of bell peppers, 8 tomatoe plants of various types, zucchini, butternut squash, chives, carrots & strawberries.  Today we will be putting in cilantro, oregano & basil. I also bought seed for broccoli which I will be planting as soon as the lettuce is used up.

I can't wait to pick my own yummy veggies to eat...not to mention the $$ we will save :-)

Who else has a garden going or is planning on planting one?

That's awesome! That's something else I need to do. Research what I can do, and do some starters in the house. Can't plant here in Colorado for a bit longer.

I tried a garden last year. Didn't have a ton of luck. it's a newer development in the middle of nowhere. I am very sure they came in with cruddy fill dirt for the yards. I worked VERY hard last year at working in good soil and manure and compost, etc... And still most of the veg didn't take off. But everything is being turned over from last year and I am hoping that after a year of giving it a shot, the soil is more ready this year.

I wanted herbs and you'd think those would just jump up, from seeds? Nothing last year. None of them. So, I'll try again. I also want cantalope (sp?) which grows easily here. Last year, lettuce and cukes grew pretty good, but everything else just sort of died out.

So, that's my story on a garden. This year should be better.
