It's back at it again - my scale is messing with my mind - argh!!!!

I like to (well....not really but I make myself do it)  weigh myself every day.

I must be honest - it makes me feel very anxious; my pulse quickens, by breathing gets harder and my palms get clammy just getting myself 'ready' to step on 'The Scale'.

Last week 'it' told me I was down 40lbs (so sweet....:)) so I reluctantly changed it's battery- lol!

This week I thought it was odd that it hasn't moved neither up OR down all week.  For me, that's unheard of.  I go up and down hourly like the stock market!

So once my DH returned from doing some business out of the country, I got him to stand on the scale.  He weighed in 10lbs less than me (the Dog) but it was still too high by at least 10lbs and it is still stuck on one number after 6 days.

Today I went out and bought myself a measuring tape - no batteries, no gadgets, and nothing to wear out!!

Again my pusle is quickening and my palms are getting all clammy just thinking about it- but I am going to take my measurements....and prepare to throw my scale out the window  (look out below!!).

Anyone else out there use a measuring tape to measure their rate of success?

Yes, all the way through my weight loss journey, I recorded bust/waist/hip measurements right beside the weekly weight.

I go by my clothes and how I look naked. (:- ) Sometimes I don;t get on the scale cause I don't want to get obcessed by numbers. I seem to stay in an OK range but when I am in the higher place, I just know it. after years of this, i can tell my weight without a scale. Don't let a piece of metal ruin your day. Go plant flowers and bury the scale under them. Weigh in weekly or monthly. Just don't give power to that stupid thing. Leila

I don't use a tape measure to keep track of my progress, but after the last couple of weeks with the scale, I am with you on throwing it out the window!!!!

Good for you - smaller jeans is a real sign of success!

Honestly, I have to weigh myself on the scale, as much as I don't like seeing the numbers.

I agree up to a point. I think both the scale and the measuring tape are important tools. I can gain up to 8-10 pounds before I notice that my clothes are tight. It's hard not to obsess over the scale's numbers, but weight fluctuates because of salt, exercise, following the diet or not and it's our overall progress that's important.
Something interesting that happened to me that I wanted to share is that on WWs I achieved my goal and I maintained it for several years. I was between a misses 8-10. The whole time I was doing aerobics and weight training. When I took up pilates, my body changed and I was fitting into misses 6 while the scale and my eating habits remained exactly the same.

That's great, Leila! I'm very disciplined around retail stores so I can safely do this for fun. I go to swanky boutiques and try on their clothing for the fun of it, especially those boutiques that feature upscale lingerie. Love that stuff.
