The Benefits of Breakfast
Is it really the most important meal of the day?

How does eating breakfast help you lose weight? Research shows that eating a morning meal actually reduces your appetite for the rest of the day if you eat the right foods — not foods that will work against your goals. For example, a sugary cereal, instant oatmeal or a big 800-calorie muffin and a large mocha latte will increase your calorie intake for the day by over 80 percent. But eating a protein breakfast will rev up your metabolism and reduce your appetite at the same time by making you feel satisfied longer.

Eat one of these high-quality protein sources for your next breakfast.
  • Whole omega-3 eggs
  • Nut butters (almond, macadamia, cashew) on whole grain bread
  • Plain yogurt with almonds and berries
  • A shake made with skim or soy milk, yogurt & berries

  • Without breakfast, your body stays in starvation mode. Your metabolism slows down to conserve and you tend to overeat later. When you eat breakfast, it gets your metabolism revved up for the day.

What did you eat for breakfast today?  What small changes have you made in your morning routine to get in a healthy breakfast?

Breakfast today was a cup of steel cut oatmeal, a banana and a bottle of water

In the past I'd skip breakfast, only to find myself starving later, now by eating breakfast - although not when I get up - I have to wait an hour or so - it keeps me full for the day and I'm not tempted to overeat or grab just anything to eat.

Most days I have an apple with a little cream cheese dip as soon as I get up and then I exercise. Then usually I have turkey bacon and eggs (I love eggland's with the omega-3 and all) for breakfast.

I had a strawberry-banana smoothie this morning along with my coffee w/ Benefiber. If I don't grab breakfast at home, I always have a box of either South Beach snack bars or Kashi Pumpkin Spice Flax bars at the office and generally tote along a can of V-8.

I'd gotten in the habit of skipping breakfast during February and March when I was just overwhelmed with life in general and drinking way too much coffee at home & at work, but I've seen the light (again!) and am really trying to get back into the breakfast mode again.

Before SB, I didn't always get a good breakfast in...now I don't leave home without one.

Today I had a half grain serving of oatbran with flax and skim milk...This is my ususal breakfast so I have been trying to vary them a little more..not b/c I'm tired of the oatbran(I love the stuff!), but I think it's better for my weight loss efforts to shift things around a little. Yesterday I had skim milk, an approved kashi cereal(measured so I'm not in the frame of mind to cheat by eyeballing) and a banana.

I have always been a breakfast eater. Recently I have been trying to mix it up a little. I dont eat before working out so when I get home I eat.
    This morning I had:
-1/2c. kashi go lean cereal with skim milk
-1 'fried' egg just friend in the pan with a little spray stuff.
    -1 veggie sausage patty
    -~8oz skim milk to drink.

That usually does me good for the day!

When I was young, I always missed breakfast. That habit followed me up until I had my daughter (14 years ago). After that I had the all in it breakfast. I called the all in it, because there would be eggs, bacon, sausage, buttered grits, waffles or pancakes and toast. But as time went by and the weight started to added up, I started to eat less or skip breakfast again. Now that I'm SB, I actually enjoy breakfast. This morning I had a small bowl of Kashi Go Lean and three slices of lean turkey breast. Depending on the day, and now, who is home to help, I also like having two scrambled eggs and two slices of turkey bacon.

Just be careful of your protein powder.
