The Benefits of Breakfast
Is it really the most important meal of the day?

How does eating breakfast help you lose weight? Research shows that eating a morning meal actually reduces your appetite for the rest of the day if you eat the right foods — not foods that will work against your goals. For example, a sugary cereal, instant oatmeal or a big 800-calorie muffin and a large mocha latte will increase your calorie intake for the day by over 80 percent. But eating a protein breakfast will rev up your metabolism and reduce your appetite at the same time by making you feel satisfied longer.

Eat one of these high-quality protein sources for your next breakfast.
  • Whole omega-3 eggs
  • Nut butters (almond, macadamia, cashew) on whole grain bread
  • Plain yogurt with almonds and berries
  • A shake made with skim or soy milk, yogurt & berries

  • Without breakfast, your body stays in starvation mode. Your metabolism slows down to conserve and you tend to overeat later. When you eat breakfast, it gets your metabolism revved up for the day.

What did you eat for breakfast today?  What small changes have you made in your morning routine to get in a healthy breakfast?

I used to be a breakfast skipper too - ever since I was a kid. I don't ever remember eating breakfast before school. Of course now I have breakfast every day, as soon as I get up, its priority #1 before anything else. Lately its been cold cereal w/fruit and turkey bacon because mornings are pretty rushed. We do oatmeal or pancakes on the weekend.

Unfortunately, I also remember my high school days when a Twinkie and a coke was considered breakfast.
