Upcoming Dental Surgery - What to eat???

I have dental surgery coming up in 3 weeks.  I won't be able to eat for about 2 days as my mouth will be very swollen and sore.

To date (started SB 1-16-08), I have lost 14 lbs.  I have 9 more to go to reach my goal.

What can I do for the 2 days so that I don't lose any ground on my progress and throw my metabolism out of whack?  Or shouldn't I even be worrying?

Thanks,

I know a few people on the board have had dental surgery while on SBD, so I'm sure they can jump in and help.

My XH had dental surgery and he was temperature sensitive and sore. I'm still new to SB, but I think that with Jello, soups, milk being encouraged you'll have plenty of options. You can also puree the heck out of legumes if you want something to stick to your ribs. Some people hate soup, but I love it. Start with some purchased broth and vary the herbs and veg for so it doesn't always taste the same. Good luck.

If you don't already have a magic bullet, this would be a perfect excuse to buy one!

Hi,

I'll be going through the same thing next Tuesday.

I'm thinking yogurt, pudding, smoothies, soups (things like split pea are very soft/creamy but nutrient dense), scrambled eggs (melt some cheese in for extra protein), oat bran cereal is very creamy (texture of cream of wheat), well cooked oatmeal, mashed cauliflower, mashed or baked sweet potatoes, refried beans. Once you can have things with a little more texture, but still not totally back to normal - softer foods like white fish, tuna salad, well cooked brown rice, couscous (small bites don't really need to be chewed).

I'd suggest using something like the SBD Tide Me Over water mixes that include both protein and fiber since those will be the toughest things to get the right amount of in your diet on the soft foods.

They are with the Crystal Light and other drink mixes. They come in packets that you mix into a water bottle. Right now they have two flavors - Strawberry Banana and Tropical. I use them at school all the time since I have to go 4 hours straight right through lunch time. Definitely keeps me full longer, or maybe its mental, but whatever - it works. Kellog's also makes ones with protein/fiber, but I thought they were nasty and didn't mix into the water completely. I prefer the South Beach ones, they mix in really well. I just wish they would come out with a couple more flavors. They've been in my stores since about December of last year.

I keep them in my car for emergencies.
