I have mine set at 180 b/c I wanted to be in a size 12 and at 180 lbs that will do it.
How did you set your goal weight? Was it a previous low? A certain size? Or did you use a BMI calculator to give you a range?

I never had a goal in mind.
In this whole journey, I never really pinned down an exact weight because I'm sort of different.
Maggie, I've checked out several different websites for body fat % charts and there seems to be as many variations on body fat % is there websites out there with body fat % charts on them. At 34.8% and age 44, I'm considered healthy, according to the chart you posted. Whereas on some others (that also go by age), I'm still considered 'overfat'. One way or another, I'm certainly not finished with my journey of getting healthy, but it is pretty confusing for me. Can you, or someone else, shed some light on this body fat % chart thing and how they arrive at these figures??? Should I just go by waist size??? Sometimes I wonder if my scale is lying to me about my body fat%.

Hi Rebekah,
I picked this weight chart, because it was
I am 5' 8" and my weight goal is 140 lbs. I chose 140 lbs. for several reasons:
adding 5 lbs. for every in. over 5' puts me at 140 lbs.
My BMI range is 125-158 so 140 is about the middle.
When I was in my mid-20s I weighed 130-135 so I added 5-10 lbs. for age.
Like many of you have said, I also believe that body fat is a better indicator. I am - underneath all of this fat - a fairly muscular person. I used to work out and loved it. I was a sz. 6 when I got married 12 years ago with 17.4% body fat (I'll never forget that no., LOL). Now I am a sz. 18W (which I think is the same as a 20?) with over 44% body fat. Ugh!
Several years ago I got to 161 lbs. and was in a sz 12. I figured that getting to 140 lbs. would get me to at least a sz. 10 if not an 8. I hope to reach my goal by my 39th birthday in mid-January '09.
June 1 Anniversary Goal
Misty,
I think if you are worried about this you should have your body fat tested and analyzed by a professional (at the gym or otherwise) to get a more accurate sense of where you are and if it is healthy.
This is why I don't go by the BMI charts...even Will Smith is "overweight" going
Misty - according to Maggie's chart I am "underfat" as well, I fluctuate between 19-20% and I am 31. I have never seen any other chart calling this too thin though. Most charts consider this in the "athlete" or "fitness" range (I generally see this listed as 14-20%) and anything under 14% as considered too low. "Essential fat" for women is about 12%, at that range you will have serious health risks from having too little fat.
