Steel Cut Oats

I am eating steel cut oats for breakfast. I make a large pot on Sunday evening and then eat it for the rest of the week. How much is a portion once it is cooked. I know it is 1/4 cup dry, but am not sure what it is once cooked and I don't want to eat too much at one time.

Thanks so much

Hi,

You're correct that it would be 1/4 cup dry.

I understand that part. But my problem is I am cooking 3 - 4 cups DRY oats at a time to feed my family for the week. I serve it each morning out of a large bowl and don't know what the appropriate amount to serve is. Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

I've always used 1/2 cup cooked as the measurement -- I do use a measuring cup, its easy to go over with that.

1/2 cup cooked steel cut oats would be a grain serving.

I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. I cooked 1 serving of steel cut oats and then measured them to make sure I ate the right amount.

I used 1 1/2 cups water to the 1/4 cup of oats. With a couple of strawberries cut up on top and some splenda it's a pretty tasty and filling breakfast! (especially for a non-egg eater like me!)
