I've been enjoying Karen's thread on being cheap --- but I bet most of us are cheap about some things and spendy on others!

What do you splurge on?

My shampoo and bath products- all natural, hand made- not cheap!

Wine. We have gotten to really appreciate the beauty of a more expensive bottle

My haircut- but SO worth it!

Really good cologne....it has always been one of my weaknesses! BUT...I do buy it at discount websites or stores so in the long run it is just as inexpensive as buying knock offs.

Plus, the really good stuff lasts and you do not need to use very much to smell sooo wonderful.

Some of the things I don't think twice about:

* haircut & color (a necessity in my book)

* manicure & pedicure

* milk - I never look at the price

* clothes - I don't overdo it, but when I see something I like I usually buy it (makes up for all the times I look for something and can't find anything)

Other things that I think about but still spend on:

* batting lessons for Amanda (at $35 for a 30-minute lesson)

* Lauren's college tuition - since we can pay for it, we decided that we wouldn't burden her with student loans

* Lauren's sorority fees - more than I thought it was going to be, but vital for her to be involved in extra-curriculars.

I splurge on my haircut but have gone back to coloring my own hair.

My hair - I pay $110 every 8 weeks just for a cut (including tip). I want to do highlights too - but, that would more than double the cost.

Date nights with dh - we do them at least 2x a month, when I wasn't in school we did them every weekend. By the time we pay for the babysitter, dinner, movie and/or pool, drinks, club cover changes, etc. it can easily be $200. But its SOOOO important to us!

Funny, a lot of splurge on the same items!

I definitely spend more for organic food and meat, though lately my "buy local" attempts have actually saved me money!

My hair costs a small fortune, though Cathy's post made me feel better about the cost and I don't have to get it done very often

I get suits custom made for work.

Books. I haven't been to a library in years, though almost every book I buy gets read after me by 2-3 people.

We have a dogwalker who takes our labrador out for extra hikes at least twice a week.

Our biggest indulgences though are probably good wine (which we have every night), good scotch and travel.

Oh, and living in the San Francisco Bay Area. It seems we pay a premium for everything here!

I splurge on very few things, but some of my favorites:

bareMinerals makeup--though when I'm in ND I can get a 40% discount from my SIL...but if I buy it here I'm willing to pay full price

shoes...though nowhere near the Manolos and Pradas on Cathy's list (I don't think anywhere around here even carries them!)

kitchen stuff--good pots/pans, mixers/blenders, etc...

like MichaelAnn, date nights with DH. Can get pricey, but SO worth it!

haircut/color...I finally decided last fall that it is worth the money to get my hair colored at the salon rather than doing it myself...I told DH that unless he wants to have a 36-yr-old wife with gray hair, he'd better quit whining about the cost!!
