HI there, I have recently purchased Stagg canned chili (it is the Classic with beans), the ingredient list looks ok to me, but tell me if I'm wrong.

Ingredients: water, beef, tomatoes, beans, kidney beans, tomato paste, dehydrated onions, chili seasoning, modified cornstarch, jalapeno peppers, flavoring, salt, dehydrated bell peppers, spices.

The sugar content is 6g, fat is 17g, Sat. fat is 7g, fiber is 6g, carbs is 27g.

Thanks for any input in advance. Lindsey

The general ingredient list seems okay, but I'm guessing that it's made with a beef pretty high in fat, based on the fat content.

I agree the problem with this is the fat. If you have the Dennison's brand in your area, they make a 97% fat-free chili that is very low in fat and has no added sugar. I used to buy it regularly when I lived in CA, they don't carry it here in TX and I miss it. It was great for a quick lunch!

I've found a couple vegetarian and black bean chilis (specialty ones in the organic/health food sections) that are legal, but unfortunately they aren't very good.

Stagg's used to make a fat free version that was perfect for SBD. Walmart used to sell it, but they stopped awhile back and I haven't been able to find it since.
