question on drinking......

I hope someone can give me an opinion.

My bff is going through a horrible divorce and we get together about once a month.  Well, this weekend her small home town is having there summer happenings festival and there is a beer tent.  I know, KNOW that beer is a no no for awhile, but, Monday I start phase 2, have been good about sticking the meal plans.

I am not much of a drinker but, I really feel the need to tip the lip with my friend and have some fun.  How much will beer screw up my diet?  Also, for some reason if the tent has boxes o' wine, red would be better than beer, right?

Thanks in advance,

Kim

You're right in that the wine would be a better choice (either white or red would be fine).

Hi Kim,

It would be a personal decision for you to have any kind of alcohol in phase 1.

Hi Kim,

I wanted to comment about adding the breads back in.

I have had the same problem in the past and this time I've found away around it, at least for the beginning of P2.

I don't eat my grains in the form of bread.

I just wanted to comment about the beer...

The ultra-low carb beers are a great option on South Beach and in some chat transcrips Dr. A has said they can be treated the same as wine and other acceptable alcohol. Some are actually lower calorie and lower carb than even wine. Michelob Ultra is usually readily available in most bars/restaurants, etc. I actually prefer it to regular beer now, its very light, crisp and refreshing. Other ultra low-carb beers are Rolling Rock Green Light and Budweiser Select. Not all "light" beers qualify as low-carb, its not an interchangeable label. Many light beers still have close to 160 calories and 10+ grams of carbs vs. the low-carb which run about 90 calories and 2-3g carbs. FYI wine is about 110 calories and 5-6grams carbs.

I don't think one or two ultra low-carb beers is going to damage you AT ALL. To be honest I generally have 2 drinks (could be low-carb beer, wine or mixed drinks like rum and diet coke) at least 3 nights per week and its never affected my weight loss.
