What are you all doing for the July 4th holiday?

Cookouts, Fireworks, parades?

I'm not sure what our plans are yet.

On Thursday a group of moms are celebrating Amanda's 8th grade graduation by taking her and her 6 BFFs to Medieval Times (it's a surprise). After that, a neighboring town has fireworks which can be seen from the softball coach's front yard and all the families are invited there with the girls sleeping over.

Most of our friends/neighbors are away this weekend with the exception of one or two couples so weather permitting, we may host a dinner party/bbq. I'm thinking of making seared tuna steaks (from Phil's latest catch) over a bed of eggplant caponata. I'll probably make this whether we have guests or not.

Happy 4th to all!

(I need to get a red, white and blue siggy!)

"Do you feel jealous of other women who have nice little bodies and who wear their skimmpy little swimwear in front of you? Does it make you worry about your own body?"

Just something to think about - I used to feel that way. I always assumed everyone who had a nice body was just "lucky", I thought it wasn't fair and I was jealous. Now I'm on the opposite end. I have a lot of friends here who didn't know me when I was overweight. I hear all the time from them, "its not FAIR, you're a mom, you've had two kids, why do you get to be skinny and wear a cute bathing suit! I hate you!" (they are joking on the last part, but you get the point) But the answer to why I look this way: I work my BUTT OFF for it. I've fought everyday for 3.5 years to be able to wear a cute swimsuit or a tight fitting cocktail dress, or a little tank top and yoga pants at the gym. So remember - you never know how hard they work, how much they sacrifice, how many hours they spend at the gym, etc. to be able to wear that swimwear. Sure, some don't and are just genetically blessed, but not all! Some of them may have to work just as hard for it as you do, they are just a little further along. Next year that could be you and other women could be saying the same thing in your direction! ;-)

I am NOT going to see the Boston fireworks this year. Been there, done that. I hate crowds and there is quite a crowd there.

Honestly, my big plans are to relax at home. Starting next week I'm going to be majorly swamped at work and I'm taking my own advice of "enjoy it while you can" because starting Monday, it's all work work work until at least the middle of August.

Past Races:
-Boston Run to Remember Half Marathon, 5/29/11 (2:35:11, no training!)
-Corporate Run, 3.5 miles 6/2/11 (36:38, 4 days after running the half!)
-BAA 10k, 6/26/11 (1:04:52, wanted to be under an hour...)
-Tavern to Tavern

We'll be heading into Houston and going to the big "Freedom over Texas" fireworks show here. JoDee Messina, Miranda Lambert and Sara Evans are playing before the show this year. We've gone every year since we moved here - big crowds, but that doesn't bother us. The fireworks are AMAZING, the kids have a blast with all the activities, the music is good, they even have low-carb beer LOL! Doesn't get better than that! The last two years it has even rained on us and we watched the concert from under an umbrella, but it was still fun. Food is the only issue, you can't bring food in. We usually end up getting teriyaki chicken skewers/rice plates - not great, but at least its not fried food!

We are discussing going to Schlitterbahn waterpark on Sat/Sun, but I'm not sure if we want to blow the money so close to our Jamaica trip, so that is still up in the air.

I'm jealous, MichaelAnn. Enjoy the music!!! Sara Evans and Jo Dee Messina are a few of our favorites!!!

We're going up to Nashville on Thursday for a Bluegrass show at the Ryman. Staying overnight near Opryland, then we'll be driving back home on Friday. It's a little get-away trip, just for DH and me. We'll probably be doing some BBQ, grilled veggies and slaw on Saturday and we'll invite my Mother over for that. Besides the trip, it will just be a kind of lazy holiday. Just the kind I like!!!

I love that you and Bruce have so many "little getaway trips"!

We have a super busy 4th planned. For the last six years, we have started the 4th by going to the municipal parade in Sausalito. Its a very quirky parade, befitting the town.
In the afternoon, I am going to my cousin's son's 1st birthday party. Luckily, they live very close to us, because I will need some time to get ready for having a dozen or so friends up to our house for fireworks. A friend who works for a local restaurant is sending over pizza and salad and chicken (not everything SB friendly, but enough for people who are "watching it" not to feel deprived). If the weather is clear, we can see fireworks shows all around the SF Bay area. If its foggy, we'll just drink wine and enjoy each other's company.

The rest of the weekend, I plan to just rest. I suspect I'll need it!

That sounds like such fun, Jamie!!! You'll have to let us know how the party goes!!! Must be wonderful to just go out on your own deck and see all the fireworks. We'll probably just watch the local fireworks on tv this year. I'm sure the kids in the neighborhood will do some small stuff this year...
