Question about Phase 1 vs. Phase 2

Now that I'm back into this diet, I've been browsing through my SBD book (copyright 2003) and I'm finding many recipes (particularly vegetable dishes) under the Phase 2 section look to me like they'd be okay on Phase 1... and I can't figure out why.

For instance, tonight I made the Oven-Roasted Vegetables under Phase 1.  I then noticed that there is a recipe called Vegetable Medley under Phase 2.  The two recipes are IDENTICAL, except the Phase I one says extra-virgin olive oil and the Phase 2 one just says olive oil; the calories per serving in the Phase 1 recipes is 170; the calories per serving in Phase 2 is 169 (I know we don't really count calories on SBD, but still...).

There is a recipe in Phase 2 for White Asparagus Salad... I can't figure out why that couldn't be enjoyed in Phase 1 (not just this particular recipe, but some of the others, too... Spinach-Stuffed Salmon Fillets, Easy Chicken in Wine Sauce, for instance).

Can someone tell me what I'm missing here?  I know you're not supposed to have any alcohol during Phase 1, but the Poached Salmon with Cucumber-Dill Sauce calls for white wine, so that can't be it).

Thanks!

Day 2 of Phase I - complete! :)

I have honestly never looked at the recipes that closely, so I don't know the answer.

Hi,

Back in 2003 some foods like onions, tomatoes and certain beans were only allowed in phase 2.

Hi Laurie,

Just to clarify, you can have Phase 1 recipes in any and all phases (and for life).
