I don't mean to interrupt your poll, but I'm just wondering if everyone else who owns a side-by-side refrigerator dislikes it as much as I do?

I definitely DO NOT like my side by side fridge! It does have instant ice, cubed or crushed, and water in the door...but that is about ALL the perks it has.

My old fridge had the freezer on the top and I am positive I had DOUBLE the amount of space in the actual fridge part.

Well, we have a side-by-side and I love it. BUT - we went from a tiny freezer on top model (about 14 cu. ft) to the biggest side-by-side we could afford (26 cu. ft.) So obviously it feels REALLY big by comparison to what we used to have! I'll never forget the first time I went grocery shopping after getting it! Usually it would take us like an hour to rearrange to fit everything - nope, everything went right in with room to spare! And I really like the freezer in the side-by-side, everything was always just piled in the top freezer, buried, smashed, etc. I like having shelves like the fridge to keep things organized.

We actually have both types of fridges and they both have there positive and negative sides.

There is definitely more room in the standard freezer-on-top, but it's nice to be able to organize the freezer side of the side-by-side.

One problem that our side-by-side has is freezing things in the fridge side.

I was really lucky that both of these appliances came with the house.

I started this poll out of curiosity because I HATE, HATE, HATE my side-by-side refrigerator. People warned me against them, but I didn't listen. I only got it because it was the largest capacity 'cabinet-depth' refrigerator I could fit into the space when we renovated the kitchen. As it turns out, the return wall to the left of the refrigerator prevents me from pushing it all the way in to cabinet-depth. So, it sticks out like a regular fridge only with much less room! Argghhh! Here are the many things I HATE about it:

  • shelves are too narrow in the refrigerator

  • the ice maker/water dispenser make a mess

  • stainless steel is hard to clean and never actually looks good

  • somehow there's a small dent in the front

  • the plastic door shelves are cracked and I've replaced them several times

  • i can't open the interior drawers without really pushing the fridge door open hard

I just wish it will break and I can justify a new one. :(
