Rising Food Costs on the Beach?

We've had a lot of discussions on this Board in the past about the expense involved in eating healthy foods.  With all of the news lately about rising food costs, I was wondering:

Have you noticed higher prices on dairy, veggies, whole grains and/or other SB friendly foods in your region?

If so, which foods?

What changes, if any, have you made to offset the higher prices?

I'm in the northeast, and I find that veggies have gone sky high this year.

So far the rising prices of "life" haven't really affected us that much - basically in the last 18 months my dh's income has risen substantially, faster than rising gas/food, so while I notice the higher bills, its not like we have "less" money leftover. For example this is the first year we have EVER had the "disposable" income for a vacation. So we've just been eating/shopping as we always have.

I've noticed an increase across the board. But I guess its most obvious in some of the more "mainstream" food. I mean, paying $2lb for grapes instead of 77cents is much more noticable than paying $4.50 for quinoa instead of $4.19, ya know? The organic, whole grain, less mainstream was already so expensive.

I have also felt the increases less here in Northern California, because I buy mostly local and organic foods, which simply have not gone up as much (except dairy, which has gone sky high).

I tend to buy only what is on sale for fresh veggies/fruits and even though it is summer and fresh produce is more readily available, I still price compare with frozen veggies.

When things are on sale, I try to stock up and cook batches of food to freeze

Prices at the local farm stands and farmers markets are just as high if not higher than the local grocery store.

For milk, I buy what is on sale or the store brand - which ever is cheaper.

I live on Southern California and everything has gotten expensive. To offset costs I've switched to Wal-Mart for my main shopping and then I go to a regular grocery store for my produce. The regular store just can't bet Wal-Mart prices. I hate to do it but it does save money. I'm not a fan of Wal-Marts produce anyway.

With the price of gas I have to hit both stores in one day so I don't have to drive as much. That can be a pain with frozen food and milk in the car. It just seems like life in general is more expensive these days. It wasn't too long ago that we didn't have internet and cell phone bills at all, now it's a pretty big chunk of change.
