Evening Everyone:
Well, I started Phase 2 today, YEAH! I am happy to be done with Phase 1. My total loss for 2 weeks is: 7.8 pounds. So today I went shopping to get foods for Phase 2. I kept hearing about South Beach frozen foods so while at the store today I found them. There were some that I could have had during Phase 1, wish I had known that the last two weeks. Anyway, some questions.
Question about sugars and honey. Thomas' Hearty Grain english muffins have something called Dextrose and Suralose in them. Are they some type of sugar and if so, can we have them? Is honey okay in breads or mini bagels. I really like mini bagels and was so looking forward to having them starting Phase 2. But they had honey in them so wasn't sure if I could have them. I really want to be able to have mini bagels and/or english muffins. Do you all have suggestions about brands that are okay.
Next question. I thought I had eaten brown rice before but I guess not. Because I made Uncle Ben's brown rice tonight and I thought it was terrible. It tasted really bland to me. I added some soy sauce but still didn't like it. Do you all have suggestions for how to give it some flavor and make it better? Is it something I have to acquire a taste for because I am used to white rice?
Next question. For pudding is the only kind we can have is the fat-free, sugar-free kind we make ourselves? Also, a yogurt question. Now that I can have flavored yogurt what do you all think is the best brand to eat, or your favorite brand?
I think these are the main questions for now. Sorry for all the questions. I just want to make sure that I am doing Phase 2 right so that I can continue to have success. Thanks in advance. I am sooo looking forward to having my fruit as an evening snack tonight.
Thanks,
Erin

sucralose = Splenda
sucrose = sugar
dextrose = type of sugar
Some sugar/honey is required in bread, the yeast needs it to feed off of, without it the bread won't rise. So a small amount in breads is okay. I prefer to stick with more natural sources - like honey as opposed to high fructose corn syrup. Pepperidge Farm 100% whole wheat mini-bagels are my favorite, and Thomas 100% whole wheat english muffins are approved.
Most people actually find brown rice MORE flavorful as it still has the bran in tact. Its the exact same plant as white rice, just without the outer coating removed. That bran give the rice a richer, nuttier, sweeter flavor than white rice. Did you cook it long enough? Brown rice needs to be cooked MUCH longer than white. Also, you can try cooking it in chicken broth to add flavor. I also do rice pilaf alot - brown some onions in olive oil, add rice and sautee til its toasted, then add white wine/chicken broth, cover and cook.
Jello makes fat-free/sugar-free pre-made 60 calories pudding cups.
My favorite brands of yogurt are Dannon Lite and Fit or a few store brands (Kroger Lite) I've found that are sweetened ONLY with splenda, no fructose like a lot of brands.

Thanks, so I guess the mini bagels and english muffins I was looking at were probably both okay then. Wish I had bought them now.
Rice-A-Roni has some whole grain rice blends out that are very good.
Hi Erin,
I think the only ready made fat-free sugar free pudding made by Jello has either high fructose corn syrup or hydrogenated oil.
Hi Erin, I just wanted to add a note about the brown rice.
Kathy,
I would love to have
Thanks, Cathy:
I am glad you reminded me that I can only have one flavored yogurt a day. I like them a lot and might have eaten more than one if I hadn't seen your post.
Good to know about the pudding as well. You are right the homemade couldn't be easier.
Appreciate your help.
Erin
Erin, here is the recipe for the rice:
NUTTY BROWN RICE
2 tsp evoo
1 small onion, diced
1/2 cup whole grain, quick cooking brown rice (instant)
1 cup vegetable broth or low sodium chicken broth
1/3 cup water
3/4 cup sliced almonds
2 tbls chopped fresh parsley
salt and pepper to taste
(I like to add the juice from 1 lemon)
Heat oven to 350 and toast the almonds about 5 minutes.
In a medium saucepan heat the oil
Since brown rice does take a lot longer to cook, I also make lots of pilafs with rice cooked within a few days before.
