Why am I so hungry in the AM?

I know they've always said breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that's great because I wake up FAMISHED. I've always been hungry when I wake up but I've noticed on SB I wake up and my stomach is growling and all I can think of is FOOD. Downfall is that many times I eat breakfast and a snack within 30 mins of each other. I'm worried that's not good since I'm not spreading out the 2. I see no way to curb this type of hunger. Also I stay up late (too late) and tend to snack later in the night (not unusual to eat a snack around 11pm) and then I'm up no later than 7am. Looks like my body wouldn't feel so hungry.

Joy, on a typical morning when you aren't running out the door, what do you eat for breakfast and your am snack?

I know what you mean about waking up starving.

I find that for myself, if I snack on junky food before I go to bed, I wake up hungrier than if I don't snack late in the evening, or if I eat something good for me (read legal).

I'd suggest monitoring what you eat in the evenings and how hungry you feel in the mornings.

I wake up starving too and never considered it a "bad" thing. In fact, a lot people say its best for your metabolism to eat a big meal (the biggest of the day) within 30min of waking. I totally agree with this and have done this starting South Beach. A typical breakfast for me is 2 servings of grains (usually as an english muffin or as 2 servings of cereal), a fruit serving, a protein (turkey bacon or soy sausage) and some dairy. I eat this at 6:30 am and have a snack at 9:30am. I did this all through phase 2. In my case being hungry in the morning and eating a big breakfast was not a problem that needed "fixing" in any way.

I agree! I suspect when she tells us what she eats in the morning, we won't think it is enough.

Probably!

Another thing I notice is that if for some reason I don't eat enough in the morning, I can't ever "catch up" and feel hungry the rest of the day no matter what I eat. That is why a hearty breakfast and NEVER skipping my morning snack is essential to me!

Thanks ladies. I know I've always heard eating breakfast is a great thing. I'm more worried about eating my snack so soon to breakfast and then going 3+ hrs without eating again. I'd like to have a more steady pattern (eat every 2hrs or something like that)

On a normal day I'd have 2 eggs, 2 slices of turkey (or canadian) bacon and a latte. Then usually within 30 mins (no joke) I'm eating nuts and string cheese. Then I'm waiting quite a while for lunch. I feel like it's setting me up for eating so much in the morning, not much during the day and then hungry again late at night. What would you recommend I add to my breakfast to make it more filling? That would be great.

Lately I've been running out the door and grabbing a meal replacement bar (W/ the bacon I can't live without it lol) however I'm really starving in no time. I'm not a big "grain" eater as I've never cared much for bread, pasta etc. I'm usually craving crackers by night so I'm trying to have my late night snack of crackers and pb. Tonight I'm out of crackers but since the family had pizza I opted for morning star sausage and 2 eggs. So far so good on the snacking.
