Gym choice advice needed

Hi All! I have been MIA this month with a few family matters I needed to attend to. I hope everyone is doing well!
I have finally been able to work up a gym membership into my budget! Any advice as to which gym I should choose would be GREAT!!
Here are my options!
Curves
Gold's Gym
YMCA
My first pick is the YMCA but they want $63 a month and golds and curves is 1/2 that price. I have been to Curves in the past and love the all women aspect of it but felt like it lacked Cardio. The Gold's gym here is where all of the muscle men go and most of the classes are during the hours of when I work. However, it is a one stop shop.
I am hoping to get a membership this week. Any pro's and con's I may not be aware of? Thanks

Jeni!
I'm sure all of the options you mentioned are good and helpful. I belong to Curves, have since March.
Thanks Char.
Good for
If I'm remembering correctly, you don't have kids.
Everyone's needs are different...
For me, childcare is the #1 priority, so that always automatically ruled out Curves (which I always thought was a BAD business philosophy on their part). But in addition to the no child care issue, it just didn't have enough options for me. I want a pool, I want classes, I want a choice of 5 or 6 different types of cardio machines, I want literally 100's of options for weight machines, I want free weights, etc. I'm a strong believer that muscle confusion is extremely important - and I just don't think you can achieve that with the limited selection of equipment at Curves. Now it may be great for a beginner, but I've been going to the gym 5x a week for 3.5 years now, and I like variety. I also like that my dh and I can work out together. We have lots of fun making it a "couple" thing, it makes it motivating and we get quite competitive.
So it really just depends what you are looking for, the same gym is not right for everyone!

MichaelAnn,
Thank you very much for your input.
Check your health insurance and see if they partner with a company that offers fitness plan discounts.
I was leery at first too. Gold's was my first gym I joined also (when in CA, I now go to LA Fitness because we don't have a Gold's here).
I started slow...the first day all I did was walk on the treadmill! After a few times I tried the elliptical. The whole time I was on the machines I was watching the trainers work with their clients - watching how their clients used the machines. I studied the layout - where the upper body machines were, where the lower body machines were, etc. I did all this from the safety of the treadmill! When I got brave enough to venture out on the floor, I had already been "observing" for a week or so, so I didn't feel so intimidated.
Also, my Gold's had a women's only room. It had a smaller selection of machines and free weights, but it was closed off from the rest of the gym, so it was an option for people just starting out. Not sure if all Gold's have these.
And my Gold's was NOT all muscle men, so don't assume that til you go. Mine had MANY stay at home mom's, elderly (there was one man who was in a wheel chair and pulling around an oxygen tank - I am NOT kidding!) Mine had a physical therapist office inside it, so we had all the people doing physical therapy after hip surgeries, knee surgeries, etc. WIDE range of members.
