You'd think after 70lbs and almost 4 years of eating this way I would already know all the benefits of South Beach, well, I discovered a new one today...
Ike is headed straight at us, they are evacuating the coast, my school and the kids school will be closed tomorrow, dh's work is closed, etc. Hundreds of cars at Home Depot waiting to pick up ply wood, lines 10 cars deep at the gas stations.
We have most of our supplies already stocked up, but I wanted to get a few more non-perishable food items since its possible we will be without power for awhile. So I went to the grocery store this morning...
They were sold out of EVERY load of regular white bread - but the 100% whole wheat double fiber bread? Fully stocked.
They were sold out of almost all the regular pasta - but the whole wheat? Fully stocked!
They were sold out of all the regular canned chili - but the Amy's Organic Low-Fat Black Bean chili? Fully stocked.
They were sold out of most of the canned fruit - but the no sugar added/sweetened with Splenda fruit cups? Fully stocked.
Crackers? Pretty well empty - but All Bran crackers? Stocked.
Soups? Top Ramen almost gone, tomato soup, potato soup, pretty empty. Healthy Request, low-fat, chicken barley soup? Stocked.
Jif peanut butter? Sold out. Laura Schudder's Natural? Fully stocked.
I could go on and on LOL! So yet another benefit - when there is a panicked run on food, there will be plenty leftover for us South Beachers!

Only the strong survive, full of fiber and without sugar ups and downs!
My thoughts are with you! Let us know when the storms have cleared and the sky is blue!

Good luck! I'll be think positive thoughts for you and your family.
I can't help but think about the non-SB followers who went to the store at the same time as you, and got "tricked" into our way of eating.
That's good to know!!! Once in a blue moon we have the scare of a few snowflakes down here and everyone runs to the grocery store. Next time that happens, I won't be so frantic!!!
Stay safe, MichaelAnn. Hope everyone your way fairs well with Ike.

I'm not sure you grasp the resistance of most people in Texas to the idea of eating anything they think looks healthy - seriously, even in an emergency situation, I heard people say things like, "well, they're all out of bread" and walk off instead of buying the whole wheat! And the fruit aisle cracked me up because this lady grabbed me and said, "where did you get those fruit cups?" I said, "oh right here, there's lots" and she said, "oh, those are ones say no sugar - forget it" and walked away.
So most just left mad to go to another store rather than buying what was leftover. I left perfectly happy!
