You'd think after 70lbs and almost 4 years of eating this way I would already know all the benefits of South Beach, well, I discovered a new one today...
Ike is headed straight at us, they are evacuating the coast, my school and the kids school will be closed tomorrow, dh's work is closed, etc. Hundreds of cars at Home Depot waiting to pick up ply wood, lines 10 cars deep at the gas stations.
We have most of our supplies already stocked up, but I wanted to get a few more non-perishable food items since its possible we will be without power for awhile. So I went to the grocery store this morning...
They were sold out of EVERY load of regular white bread - but the 100% whole wheat double fiber bread? Fully stocked.
They were sold out of almost all the regular pasta - but the whole wheat? Fully stocked!
They were sold out of all the regular canned chili - but the Amy's Organic Low-Fat Black Bean chili? Fully stocked.
They were sold out of most of the canned fruit - but the no sugar added/sweetened with Splenda fruit cups? Fully stocked.
Crackers? Pretty well empty - but All Bran crackers? Stocked.
Soups? Top Ramen almost gone, tomato soup, potato soup, pretty empty. Healthy Request, low-fat, chicken barley soup? Stocked.
Jif peanut butter? Sold out. Laura Schudder's Natural? Fully stocked.
I could go on and on LOL! So yet another benefit - when there is a panicked run on food, there will be plenty leftover for us South Beachers!

Why does that not surprise me?
Stay safe through the storm!!
I see a lot of myself in your before pic. I weighed 183 when I 1st started SB in june.
I am now 170. Hope you don't mind if I ask...But did you lose the weight with SB only or did you exercise also? I have been going to the YMCA lately. I am just trying to figure out if maybe I need to push myself harder. I have a very demanding job, lots of physical activity 2nd shift, so I work out in the AM. But some days I don't feel like going, I find myself feeling guilty on those days.
Thank you for sharing your pics you are an inspiration.

Thank you. Yes, I did exercise in addition to South Beach. When I decided to "get healthy" it was about more than just the weight - I wanted my whole body to be healthy and fit, so that included exercise, both cardio and weight training. I began at the same time I started South Beach and generally worked out 4-5 days per week. I still continue to work out 4-5 days per week, and always will. Its just part of my lifestyle now, and I consider it essential to maintaining my weight loss. I've also still continued to see effects of the exercise even though my weight on the scale leveled off. When I first reached my goal weight of 115, I was 22% body fat and a size 4. I am now still 115 lbs, but 17% body fat and a size 2. This is due to exercise - so its an important aspect of getting healthy and maintaining!
