Rebekah,
How was your trip to Savannah? What did you end up seeing here, and where did you eat? Did you have fun? I hope it was a great time! :)

Hey Maggie!!!
The weekend was really wonderful!!! Thanks so much for all the suggestions. We ended up taking it easy for the most part. It took us longer to get there than expected, so we went straight to Uncle Bubba's for some fresh seafood. Mmmm, those char-grilled oysters are SO GOOD!!! This was definitely a splurge meal. It had been so long since either one of us had had some fresh seafood, so we split the fried seafood platter. Sounds bad, but it was not greasy in the least. And those little corn muffins...wow!!! At least we passed on the dessert.
On Saturday, we went downtown to the City Market and spent the day. Bruce made reservations for a private carriage ride in the middle of the day. This was an awesome way to see the town. The girl that did our tour was really knowledgeable about the town and we learned lots that we wouldn't have otherwise known. Well worth the $85 price tag for an hour long tour.
While on the tour, we learned that Ms. Wilkes restaurant was already closed (to our dismay), and that they were not open on Sundays. So we never made it down there. We did however, eat a late lunch/early dinner at Tapas in the City Walk area. I tried the seafood au-gratin and Bruce the beef tenderloin. Huge portions, so half-way thru, we swapped. Both entrees were very good. We very much enjoyed the atmosphere here. We watched as one of the ladies showed customers family pictures on the wall. It was apparent that the restaurant has been in the family for many, many years.
Bruce made reservations for us at Pearl's Saltwater Grill for Sunday evening. We got a nice table right at the window. It had been raining, so there was no magnificent sunset, but it was very pretty out there just the same. I have to say that this was my favorite place. The food was just excellent here. There was no passing up those little hushpuppies. Oh my gosh, they are so good!!! Bruce & I split the seafood nachos (my first time to ever try these), and he had the cashew crusted mahi-mahi and I had a pasta dish with shrimp and scallops. Not legal, but oh so good!!!
So I guess we ate our weights in seafood over the weekend. But that's ok, we were busy (in other ways...haha), that burned a few calories!!!
Thanks so much for all of the suggestions, Maggie. We truly had a wonderful and memorable time in Savannah. Next time we come to town, tho, (and there will be a next time, I assure you), I would love to meet you!!!

Rebekah,
I'm so glad that you had a great time!
I really hate we didn't make it to Ms. Wilkes this time. But there are other things I still want to see in Savannah, so we'll be back, I'm sure.
Btw, did you say at one time that you couldn't find the Fiber One Honey Clusters cereal??? Just thought I would let you know that the Twelve Oaks Publix on Abercorn carries it. There might be a Publix that is closer to you that has it as well. We dropped in there for some legal snacks and I happened to notice that they had it there.

Yeah, the Saltwater Grill truly was a hit, lorikay!!! I knew from the first bite that this was going to be a great place. There weren't very many people there when we got there, so the place was pretty quiet. And that made it a very nice and more intimate setting. This is definitely a place I will visit again!!!
Thanks so much for suggestion!!!

Yeah, they finally carry it at my Kroger out in the 'burbs now!
Glad you were able find the Fiber One cereal. We've tried so many others, but keep coming back to the Honey Clusters as our favorite legal cereal.
Your daughter is lucky!!! We really like the Savannah area. We stayed out in that area of Derenne and Abercorn on Stephenson (I think), and it was pretty close to everything that we wanted to do. We were even able to go to a movie that we wanted to see on Saturday night. I think we passed at least 4 movie theaters within 5 to 10 miles of where we were staying. Thank heaven for the GPS in DH's phone. I never would have thought to try to find a movie theater in a strange town before he got that feature.
Our little town is growing as well. But it's not anything like Savannah!!! We're happy to be getting a Walmart that is supposed to open next month. And there are rumors that we may get a Target soon as well. But we still don't have a movie theater closer than about 30 minutes away. Baby steps, I guess...

Rebekah,
You were staying in what's known as Midtown, where most of the shopping is.
That's very interesting info about Savannah, Maggie!!! DH & I love going to these older towns and having a look around. There's not much that is that old around here!!!
For our next trip, we will probably do more house tours. We really didn't devote any time to looking at more than the City Market area and the Bay & River Street areas on this trip. So I still want to go back to see Forsyth Park and that area and to walk around the cemetery. Something has always fascinated me about looking at really old gravesites.
I loved the area with the beautiful old homes and trees so big that they covered the entire road areas. I tried to get some pictures of that area, but I'm not so sure they came out. We were driving down the road at the time, so who knows??? I'll have to get DH to pull those off my camera and see if they're any good. I can just imagine what the homes in that area cost.
You are fortunate to live & work close to all that, Maggie!!! Savannah really is a lovely place!!!

Hi Rebekah! Happy Anniversary!
Sounds like you had a great time in Savannah! Don't you just love it there? I went last October and fell in love with the city. My husband and I were planning an anniversary trip there last weekend but had to cancel due to no one being able to watch our little ones. We'll get there some day!
I'll have to make note of those restaurants you went to. They sound great! We went to Olde Pink House and it was awesome, and Paula Dean's place. There are so many great restaurants to try.
