Ok this is a question for those of you who are 'drinkers'.
How often do you drink an alcoholic drink now that you are on SDB?
What do you drink? Wine, Rum, etc...?
Do you worry of the calories you are consuming so therefore limit your intake?
I ask this for one reason and one reason only. I am 33 years old and in all my life I have never really been a drinker. However, recently I found that I really enjoy a Diet Coke and rum. I have had a very stressful week or two and due to that would like to have a drink at the end of the week or even day for that matter. But I do worry of the calorie content. That is why I want other opinions.

Hi,
I do worry about the calories in alcohol.
Well, I probably qualify as a SBD "drinker" LOL!
I probably more often than I should, I supposed. I guess I sort of worry about the calories - but I have been eating this way for almost 4 years (maintaining for 3) and I have never gained anything. So right now its not an issue. But I think its because I kind of "average" things out unconsciously...usually I drink the most on weekends for example when we go out with friends. Weekends are also the times that I eat less during the day, usually skipping snacks because we are too busy, then skipping desert because we are out and there is usually nothing SBD friendly. So in general, without those 3 snacks I am usually "down" by about 400 calories on a Saturday, so having 4 drinks doesn't affect my calories for the day really. On a regular weeknight, if I have a glass of wine after dinner, I don't have my desert/sweet treat, so again - it just "replaces" those calories. Plus with working out 5x a week and eating very clean, I guess I feel like I can afford one "vice".
I drink wine a lot - but a lot of places we go don't have great wine lists, or I get sick of the same wines they always seem to have at bars, so I then I move to diet coke w/rum, crown or jack. My dh is a martini guy (yuck! I hate gin!) At home we make all sorts of drinks by subbing splenda or using sugar-free mixes - daiquiris, mojitos, margaritas, cosmos, etc.
I grew up in an Italian family where wine was always drink with dinner (and I mean ALWAYS), so I almost don't really think of it as doing anything "bad" - its just what you drink with dinner! I'd say I have one/two glasses of wine at least 3x per week, then at least one night on the weekend we go out or have friends over and have quite a bit more than 2, but again - for me *personally* it hasn't hurt me. I think its one of those things that you have to monitor and see how it works into your lifestyle, its possible effects are a combined thing with how well you eat otherwise, your exercise habits, etc. and won't be the same for everyone. If you don't exercise much and you stray from SB often, then a few glasses a week may be more of an issue than for someone who works out rigorously and eats clean 99% of the time.

I like wine, but have cut back since being on SBD.
Joy,
You brought up an interesting point about alcohol and eating more.
