The Biggest Loser Recap (Part 2): Making Choices

All right, you guys saw me lose it a bit in Tuesday night's episode. My girls just weren't doing their homework and weren't showing me that they were committed to changing their lives. Luckily (for them, since I was about ready to throw them out a window), they came around and got to work toward the end of Week Four. Here's how things wrapped up:

Breaking Through: I certainly didn't go easy on Amy C. when she gave me that couldn't-care-less attitude after I called her and her teammates out for slacking. She was NOT happy with me when I made her leave that gym...but in the time away she did some thinking and remembered why she'd come to the Ranch in the first place. When she walked back in that gym door, I was proud of her. She made a choice in coming back — a choice to get serious, to work through adversity, and to drop the unproductive attitude that was holding her back. Michelle made a similar choice this week — she decided to keep on working hard for herself, in spite of the difficulty of being on the Ranch with the mother she had so many conflicting feelings about. These choices were empowering for my girls, and I was happy to see them move forward. After all, since they didn't do their homework they were going to need all the help they could get at the weigh-in...

The Reckoning: Having seen my players fall below the yellow line for the last few weeks, and sensing that we'd probably made more emotional progress than physical progress this week, I was nervous for my girls at the weigh-in. If Coleen fell below the yellow line, it was curtains for her. She was the first to weigh in, and when she only pulled three pounds, we knew it was going to be a nail-biter. And it was — team after team pulled decent numbers and higher percentages of weight loss. The second-to-last team to weigh in was Bob's Orange Team, Ed and Heba, who needed to lose nine pounds or more to beat Coleen and stay safe. Heba pulled an incredible eight pounds, but inexplicably, Ed didn't lose any weight this week. The last to weigh in, Vicky and Brady of the Brown Team lost a combined 12 pounds, or 2.3 percent of their body weight, and won the weigh-in. It was a bittersweet victory for them, though — they'd become very close with Ed and Heba and didn't want to see either of them go home.

Going It Alone: But that's how the game works — someone always has to go home. Ed and Heba had only an hour to decide which one of them it would be. Talk about a tough choice — Heba had pulled a much better number, but there was always the chance that her body could rebound and hold on to the weight next week. Ed was sure that he would have the focus to continue on his own at home, and he wanted what was best for Heba, so in the end, they agreed that she should be the one to stay. It wasn't easy for the newlyweds to say goodbye to each other, but Ed was certainly right that he would do well at home. He's lost 85 pounds since starting on the Ranch, and he's made awesome strides toward a healthier relationship with food. With all the kicked-off contestants doing so well so far, you can bet it's going to be stiff competition at the finale!

Next week's episode is one you don't want to miss — there's going to be a big, game-changing twist. Tune in next Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET to find out what goes down!
