Are you seeing results?

Hi there, I am wondering how you ladies are doing on the South Beach Diet? I've done Weight Watchers numerous times and am wondering if I should try this. I was inspired by a blog I was reading about a woman who lost a lot of weight and is keeping it off using SB.
What are your experiences? Are there a lot of newbies on the board? How has it been? I'm also hoping to hear about people successfully maintaining on this program.
That's a lot of feedback to ask of you, I know. So thanks for any info you have for me!
ETA: I just saw the "Getting Started" thread. I will pop down there for what looks like great info!

Welcome to the board!
Many of here have had great results, my story...
I lost 75lbs on South Beach in 2005. I started Jan '05, it took me 1 year to lose the weight, and I have successfully (and easily) maintained that weight since - so I've maintained for almost 3 years - a total of 4 years of the South Beach lifestyle.
So yes, I got results, yes I've been successful maintaining.

Welcome!
There's always the option of starting in Phase 2.
Krista,
I'm travelling to Cabo for the first time on 12/26 and really looking forward to it.
Welcome!
There is never a perfect time to start a new eating plan.
Ladies: you're awesome!

Just wanted to say I'm a former neighbor, we have lots of family in San Jose and if that was your stomping ground then I am sure you are familiar with mine - I was born and raised in Santa Cruz. We're in TX now though - unfortunately :-(
I understand what you mean about waiting til you are ready. I am the type of person who often waits a long time to do something, I think about it, research, plan ahead because once I start I go with it 100%. I did this with South Beach, I spent almost a year wanting/knowing I needed to lose weight, but it took a lot of planning and research before I started, I needed to be really ready in order to succeed. I also did this with college, my heart wasn't in it when I was younger, I didn't know what I wanted to do, I slacked off, etc. so I took 10 years off -waited to go back until the timing was perfect (we could afford it, my kids were in school, I knew what I wanted to major in) Well, I'm starting my second year now, I'm making good progress, will be half done this year, have a 4.0, etc. So I'm glad I waited til the time was right, it definitely increased my chances of success.
I also agree that its never "perfect" though - I've stayed on South Beach through many things, tough situations and transitions...holidays, vacations, death of my mother, dh getting fired, moving from CA to TX, starting back to school after being a stay at home mom, etc. A lot of people use these types of things as excuses eat unhealthy, which isn't the case.
Anyhow - I think there is a medium between finding the "right" time versus finding excuses. I actually think you have a good handle on why you are making the decision and I think it sounds like a good one!
Another little South Beach thing you can do without actually following the diet to a "t" that may be very helpful with the holidays: do not let yourself get overly hungry. Eat small, frequent meals/snacks. When we are busy, traveling, etc. we often will be on the go and then "forget" to eat. Then later if you are faced with a try of cookies or desert, you will end up eating MORE than if you had stopped for a snack earlier. Even if that snack *isn't* SBD-friendly, its still better to eat SOMETHING and keep from getting overly hungry. It takes less calories to prevent a drop in blood sugar than it does to reverse/overcome one.
