I've stalled!

Ok, so I looked over some of the older posts about plateaus and stalling and I have stalled!

I have weighed the same since Dec 1st!!!  Now while I'm super pleased I did NOT gain during this holiday-eat-fest!  I am getting a little bummed that the scale isn't moving.

It looks like the biggest suggestion seems to be increase exercise and/or change it up...here's my thing, I have a treadmill at home, and I really enjoy using it, does anyone have a good workout routine for the treadmill that might help me blast through this plateau?  I usually try to run about 3 times a week for about 2 - 2.5 miles but I think maybe some hills, speeadwork, etc...might be in order to get me going...anyone else out there use a treadmill have any suggestions???

Any tips for busting out of this stall would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Melissa

Technically, you haven't stalled yet.

Thanks Joy,

Actually my goal weight is 130, I was just trying to break out of the 140s by New Years (which I can see won't happen).

One of the problems about changing my workouts is I exercise at home so I'm limited to what equipment I have.

Hi Melissa -

I use our treadmill at home when the weather is too awful outside to run (and that's how it's been for a couple weeks now!).

Hi Melissa,

You might want to try the couch to 5K running program.

Monday may not be a good day for your 'official' weigh-in.

#1 - make sure you are eating all your servings. The #1 reason I've seen people stall in my 4 years on this board is that they are not eating enough. They think they are being "good" by having as few servings as possible, especially of fruits and grains. It always, always backfires on them.

#2 - strength training. No workout routine will truly be effective without it. Cardio is good, but its not meant to be done alone. You just won't achieve the results you want without strength training. A set of weights would be ideal, but even if you can't buy a few free weights, heck, lift gallon water jugs - lift SOMETHING. Do body resistance exercises like squats, walking lunges, etc. Build muscle - its the best way to fight fat.

#3 - interval training. Endurance training is fine if you are competing in things that require it. For overall fitness/weight loss, interval training is MUCH more effective.

#4 - muscle confusion. Doing the same thing over and over builds muscle memory. Muscle memory is the enemy of fitness/weight loss. Vary your type of activity and your results will be much better. If you run 2 miles, then your body adapts to that. Those muscles get strong enough to run two miles. You heart/lungs get strong enough to running two miles. Once you get to a point where there is no PROGRESS anymore. Then it stops CHANGING your body. To change your body - change your workouts. I know it can be a challenge if you don't have access to a gym - but ride a bike, skate, run up and down your stairs, play basketball, anything you can that is different.

Hi there.

For me, the way I got off some hard to lose last 5 pounds was to increase my weight lifting and introduce interval training.
