We have a lot of new South Beach Dieters on the board.  For those of you with SBD experience, what advice or words of wisdom can you share with our newbies??

BE PREPARED. I need to have a well-stocked fridge and pantry, so that I have plenty of options at my disposal at any given time. I pretty much blow my grocery budget up front just to fill up the house with everything I need - but it evens out in the long run.

It's also so helpful to have everything prepped ahead of time, so they are right there and ready to go when you need them. Wash and prep your fresh vegetables as soon as you bring them into the house. Boil up some eggs to have handy in the fridge for a quick snack or breakfast component. Split up nuts into small, pre-counted packages - either snack bags or little containers to grab and go. Anything you can do to make life easier day-to-day...do it!

I agree with everything everyone before me said, but want to add just one more point: if you get frustrated -- and everyone does when making change -- check in with us here before you give up or sabatoge yourself.

I have followed SBD for about 3 yrs off and on. I have had some success and then some medical setbacks. What I have learned has stuck with me.

Always have your favorites handy. For me its V-8, Peanut Butter, Cabot LF Cheese, Cereal Bars, lots of fruit and veggies.

Plan your meals in advance.

Always keep soup frozen for quick dinners

Never be hungry

Find some sort of exercise

Leftovers make a great lunch

Learn that you can politely refuse to eat something if its illegal.

Always bring SBD friendly options to social events.

GOOD LUCK!

If you can't handle meal planning for a whole week at a time, meal plan for shorter periods. Three days of meal planning and shopping worked for me.
