UGH, today was techniqually day one for me because I wanted to make sure my fridge and cupboards were stocked before I offically started.  Long story short, I'm leaving tomorrow to take care of my grandmother for 10 days and I don't know what to do w/ all the food I bought (I can bring some, but certainly not all).  I'm worried cause now I'm going to a house that is not stocked w/food I need to stay on program.

Also, on the 10 and 17th I have two parties to go to.  Both will have fantastic foods and alcohol.  I'll still be in phase one so i can't even have wine!  How am I going to stay on program?

You could consider moving to Phase 2 sooner than planned, if things get too difficult for Phase 1.

Thank you...some good ideas.....can i have riesling wine or does it have to be a red wine?

I'm going TO try to stay in phase 1 because if I switch wednesday I would have only been on phase 1 for 2 days.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

You can have red or white wines.

I have been on South Beach for 4 years - so been on it through MANY parties, many family get togethers, many birthdays/anniversaries, many vacations, many times staying with family. Been on it through moves, being sick, lots of life changes. Its really not that different than any other day, its still just about taking care of your body.

When I stay with friends or family, I always shop when I get there. I offer to cook as much as possible so I have maximum control over the food. But all my family has always been VERY supportive of my healthy lifestyle because they have seen the change it has made in my body, my healthy and most of all my personality/confidence/happiness, etc.

Parties can be difficult, but its all about the PEOPLE not the food and drink. I mean, would it still be a party if it was an empty room full of snack food and booze with no people there? Nope. So the food/drinks don't make the party. The people do. I always eat plenty before hand, a nice big meal of my favorite foods, so I arrive stuffed. And I always make sure I have one of my favorite treats ready for after the party. If its a friend's party I always offer to bring something so I know there will be at least one thing I can eat. And most parties will have SOMETHING you can have - a veggie tray, a fruit tray, etc.

Be very careful with the wine - it will lower your resolve to stay on plan for a few reasons. It affects your blood sugar and will physically make you hungry. Plus it will lower inhibitions. And you may find that if affects you differently after a few weeks on South Beach. Don't get me wrong, I drink plenty LOL! Its never really affected my weight loss negatively and one or two glasses won't be a big deal. But just be aware and prepared.
