Fiber supplements?

I remember a while back some on this board there was talk about taking fiber supplements...is this recommended?  Or only as needed?  If so, what are the guidelines?

I was looking at some at Target yesterday and there were so many different choices I wasn't sure which would be best.  The Benefiber pills had Wheat dextrin, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxide Gluten Free (less than 10ppm gluten).  Then there was Psyllium Husk  - I don't remember and couldn't find all the ingredients but it obviously had Psyllium Seed Husk and other ingredients.  Do I need to look at the calories?  The Psyllium one had 10 calories per serving which was 5 pills.

I am so confused.  Thanks!

Here's a link to the "Vitamins and Supplements" info, and fiber is addressed.

Hi,

In the book Dr. A suggests taking a fiber supplement 30 minutes before every meal.

I used the powder when I first started South Beach but it just wasn't going to make it into my long-term routine.

Carrie,
I had a hard time with the fiber pills but have been adding Benefiber powder to my coffee in the morning -- every little bit helps, I figure, and there's absolutely no grit, taste, etc.

Good luck!
