Hi everyone! Nicol here! I have been away for awhile because I have been busy training and racing. You know I have always been into fitness (biking, etc.) But I got into running and have been racing 5Ks (which is 3.1 miles) and training for masters track. I will be racing in my age division in 100M, 200M and 400M races. I have raced in five 5K races so far and in my age division I have gotten one 1st place, one 2nd place, two 3rd places and in in one race I was 1st in my age division AND 2nd overall fastest women in ALL age divisions! Its been fun! I am looking forward to running and racing more. Track season should be a challenge and a lot of fun. All this running has been great for maintaining a healthy weight and has made transformations in my body that DH & I both love :-)

Here are a couple pics of me after races with medals on. One is with my daughter .....my dear sweet 8 year old daughter is also a runner and she ran a 5K with me and placed 1st in girls 15 and under! That girl has talent! (she is on a track team and the season starts again soon, I am team mom and that keeps me so busy too)

I hope everyone is doing great. Keep up the good work. And to the newbies or those on the journey.....you CAN do it!!
Stick with exercise and healthy eating and you WILL get there :-)

wow, you're fast! I might look fast in my pictures but I'm a serious middle of the pack-er!

It's awesome that you found your distance niche in track. I think most people would gravitate towards distance.

Thanks ladies!! I have been surprised with my ability to go fast for so long. Growing up I was always a fast runner, winning sprints, but never tried the longer stuff. When my daughter started track last year she inspired me to run again, I wondered if I was still fast. Although I thought hmmm maybe I am too old for this competitive stuff. Then I met a lot of people that are into road racing and masters track (ages 35 & up) and learned that heck no I am not too old and in fact you are never too old to "go for it!" So I gave it a try to see if I still had the speed and low and behold so far so good! I started running the longer distances just to get my conditioning and endurance up for the track races but then I found myself really liking the longer runs and being pretty quick at it so I have stuck with them too. I see running in my life for years and years to come. Running and just regular exercise in general is beneficial in so many ways.

So to those of you that think you are passed your prime of doing something you always wanted to do or you think that its your kids turn now or your too old....that is not so, you can do it and you will be so happy that you did.

Well I better go I DD and I are off to the track! :-)

Oh and Patty, way to go on the great progress you have made and the fantastic running you continue to do. Your legs look so strong & awesome. Have a great year of running and racing in 2009!

Take care everyone and I will check in from time to time :-)

Hey Nicol! Its great to hear from you - glad things are going well! Congrats the running achievements, that is awesome.

Your dd is adorable. Mine loves to run too. They had a fun run at her elementary last spring (just 1 mile). She was only in 1st grade but ran the whole thing no problem and beat some of the 5th graders! She also got 1st place for her age group in all the events at a Girl Scout track thing. She gets that from dh though, he used to do track in high school and did a few half marathons. She does NOT get it from me, I am the world's worst runner!

Make sure you come back and update us often!

Hi MichaelAnn! Your daughter sounds like she has talent for running. Since she likes it too you should look into signing her up with a youth track club in your area. Track season practices are just starting and first track meets will be in March. Its A LOT of fun. To find a club go to USATF (united States America Track and Field) find your area and clubs should be listed there. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have too. Oh to learn more you can also go to www.trackmom.com and there is a wealth of youth track info on that site.

BTW ~ You look great, its so impressive the journey you took, the outcome you created and the way you maintain it!

Take care,

Nicol
