Natural Peanut Butter question

OK -- I know this is going to be a stupid question, but would like to know. When you get natural peanut butter, it comes with that layer of oil. Usually, I blend it in the best I can, as everyone else seems to.
Is there any reason you can't pour most of that off? Does anyone know how it would affect the PB?
Thanks!
Sue

You probably can, but the one I buy is really, really chunky and hard, that oil makes it smoother and more "peanut butter-like". Not sure it could be spread if I didn't mix it in well. I don't really see a reason why you couldn't just throw it out, if you like what's underneath it "as is".

I actually pour some of it out when I first open the jar. It does make it a little harder to use, but it's a good trade-off to me. I usually only use it for yogurt or smoothies and the only time I have difficulty with it is at the end of the jar, which is when I switch to using it for only smoothies.
To be honest, I actually find that top layer of oil to be kind of nasty - even though I know it's part of the 'good fat' that's in peanuts, to me, seeing that much oil is stomach turning.

We buy it at Meijer; I'm not sure where Sue gets it.
I get it at Kroger -- but I'll look at Meijer next time, it may be less expensive.
