I used to eat yogurt almost every day for breakfast. I always ate yoplait lite or ff but I think those have too much sugar. What brands of yogurt can I have? Is there a restriction on the flavors/fruits?

Hi blue,

Here is the difference in the guidelines between the yogurt recommendation for P1 and for P2:

Phase 1:
Now includes 1 percent or fat-free milk, low-fat plain soy milk (4 grams of fat or less per serving), 1 percent or fat-free buttermilk, and fat-free plain yogurt on the Phase 1 "foods to enjoy" list. Limit dairy to 2 servings a day. Note: Feel free to flavor your fat-free plain yogurt like a ricotta creme.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Phase 2:
May introduce artificially sweetened nonfat flavored yogurt, but limit this variety to 4 ounces daily. Note: Since the SBD is still low in saturated fat, high-fat whole milk products will remain on the "foods to avoid" lists for all Phases.

So, even though some flavored and artificially sweetened varieties can be introduced, you would still want to closely look at the labels and stick with non-fat, and no added sugars.

I buy Blue Bunny Lite 85. It is fat free, no sugar added, sweetened with Splenda.

I get the nonfat plain yogurt and add s/f jam, splenda and a dash of vanilla extract.

Hi blue,

I just had to second those who recommend Dannon FF plain yogurt. I buy the big container--lasts me about a week. Find it's most economical and versatile. It's good with PB, Splenda and vanilla; also the SF jam (no sugar even needed!) I've also added fruits like banana or mango plus vanilla and splenda and sometimes cinnamon also.

I think the other yogurts you buy are so expensive, and you can spend hours standing in the dairy aisle trying to get the sugar/fat/carb balance right. So why bother? Just buy the plain and flavor it to your liking.

Just my two cents!

All the best,

Rebecca

I am moving on to Phase 2 in 1 week, but I had to throw my 2 cents in on the this post. I am so happy to see that Dannon LF Vanilla Yogurt is so highly recommended! If you love the fruit yogurts (obviously we can have them) I buy bags of the frozen mixed berries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries are in it and put a half cup of yogurt and half cup of berries (still frozen) in a sealable container and stick it in my work fridge for the day. By the time I eat it, usually around 3ish, all the fruit is thawed and juicy and it is sooo much better than buying the premade crap!! I highly recommend it!
