May I join you?

Hi everyone-

My name is Emily.  I'm married w/ two children: a boy 3 yrs and a girl 1 yr.  We live in SW Colorado.  I'm the CL on the Get Fit Moms board.  I just recently discovered this board and I'd love to join you.  A little background on me...I started phase one of SB a few weeks back.  I did it for 8 days then I got really sick (head cold).  My dd is still nursing and when I began ph1 I really thought she was weaning herself, however, that hasn't been the case.  She's sick too and has decided she needs to nurse a zillion times a day.  So once I got sick I realized I probably needed to be in phase 2.  As I moved into ph2 things got out of control.  I got right back to cleaning the kids plates, eating their goldfish, I even bought and mindlessly ate pretzels in the car...and the Halloween candy...oh my goodness it wasn't pretty.  I know I can't have temptations in my house.  Luckily my kids eat plenty of fruits and veggies, but they do like their mac & cheese (I make it w/ whole wheat pasta) and their grilled ch (I make those with 7 grain bread).  Anyway I need to get back on track with ph 2.  I did so well for 8 days on ph1, I don't think I'd ever gone more than a week without sugar...I don't know why ph2 is so hard for me...I guess it's that old saying "give her an inch she'll take a mile."  So I'm here for some support.  I have the book and I know what I'm suppose to eat.  I just have to put it in action.  As for exercise I mostly do the firm (www.firmdirect.com) at home or go for power walks in my very hilly/mountainous neighborhood.  Every now and then I get to our rec center for a body sculpting class and I'd love to start swimming laps or running again.

So that's it for now ;-).  I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Emily

Hi Emily,

Welcome to the board! I'm in a pretty similar situation to you. I have a 4 y.o. (as of Sunday) and a 17 month old who is still nursing very actively. I started South Beach last June, right after DD turned one. I decided to do Phase 1 even though DD was still nursing since she was older and I have never had any supply problems. I drank a little extra milk, but otherwise was very strict with Phase 1. I think that helped me with the cravings. I then eased very slowly into Phase 2, having no more than one fruit and one starch a day for a very long time. Now I usually have 3 things (either one starch and two fruits or vice versa). I have lost 32 pounds so far (had about 60 to lose).

It is definitely hard with young kids. Mine are both carb freaks, and DD will eat very little else (another story). I often make them separate meals from what DH and I are eating (mostly b/c we like spicy food and they won't touch it). I have learned to be very disciplined when doling out pretzels, goldfish, etc. and, while I can't say the temptation to shove some in my mouth ever completely goes away, I manage not to do it.

Just wanted to chime in and tell you it can be done! Good luck!

Hi Maggie,

I've been thinking about moving back into phase 1 temporarily then moving into phase 2 a lot more slowly than I did the first time.

"The problem I was having on PH1 is I got in the rut of eating eggs every single morning."

Hi Emily, If you aren't wild about all those eggs, here are a bunch of breakfast options:
