Also - Cathy or Maggie - one of you provided me with that info sheet that tells of the three important food components that will slow down digestion of sugars in carbs. In the section ACID it says sourdough bread will slow digestion because although it is not high in fiber, it is acidic.
The reason I ask about that is because I had a piece of sourdough bread yesterday & dipped it in Dipping Oil Herb Flavored Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar.
The label on the bread says 110 calories per 1 slice, 5 from fat. 0 sat & trans fat, 4% fiber, sugars LESS than 1g
Is it okay to have these *popcorn* and the bread & olive oil?
I would think its okay, as long as I dont eat it daily.
If it is okay, how often would I be allowed these items?
Lastly, when I look at packaging labels at the grocery store - what KEY things should I look for? I thought the sat & trans fat/sugars/fiber.
ANY advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi Yvette, the list of "carb competitors" includes fat, fiber, protien and acidity.
My DH has been popping his own in cast iron pot with a small amount of olive oil about 2x per week as one of his startches for the day.
Hi blue, here is the answer (which Cathy gave you already), from the August '04 nutritionist chat transcript:
Member Question: Are there any kinds of microwave popcorn that are SBD approved? If so, for what Phase?
Sandy: Popcorn may be reintroduced during Phase 2. The serving size is 3 cups popped. The best choice is air popped popcorn because most of the microwave ones contain trans fats. This can be identified on the ingredient list by the terms "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated." Smart Balance recently came out with a light popcorn that does not contain trans fats. There will probably be others (and may already be some) that do not contain trans fats. The reason is that manufacturers are scrambling to eliminate trans fats as they are required to list trans fat content starting 1/06.
