Low sodium a problem?

By the sounds of the boards most of us seem to be doing OK and that's great! If any of you want to see some real "eye candy", check out Maggie and hubby...wow! Sure got me inspired again!
I am supposed to be sodium restricted. Since being on SBD I have concentrated on reading labels for sodium content, as well as all the other things such as sugar, cholestoral, etc. When an SBD suggested food is too high in sodium, I have made changes and subsitutions. For example, I make my own V-8 and tomato juices because commercial options (even low-sodium) contain too much sodium. Also, instead of Canadian Bacon which has 560 mg of sodium or more, I have been using a regular bacon that has only 150 mg sodium per serving (of 2 pieces). I only cook bacon on Sunday mornings, it's our "special" breakfast.
I got to thinking about it and thought I would run this by all of you to see if I'm doing the right thing or maybe need to make some other changes as well. Are there any other considerations that I should think about while trying to combine SBD and a low-salt lifestyle?
Second question...I see talk on the board about servings and serving sizes. How do I know what is considered a serving? For packaged food and drinks, do I go by what the label considers a serving? What about fresh stuff? For example, what's a serving of green beans? Lettuce? Squash? I noticed that dairy was expressed in serving sizes of 1 cup each and meats at 2 - 3 oz servings?
Last but not least, in reading messages I see the abbreviations DH, DD - what do they mean? What are the daily check-ins? And when a message only says "BUMP", what does that mean?
Have a great weekend all.....
Betty

Hi Betty,
I hope I can answer all of these questions.
Thanks for the list of abbreviations. I have been meaning to ask that same question. Of course I was thinking dumb some days for the dh : ). I have also learned that if your posting(cl-cathy's) appears blank, to give it a second because you have posted a cool graphic and my dsl is a little slow.
Thanks for help.
Kathy
Kathy,
You're welcome! I love graphics (as if you couldn't tell).
