Marvelous Monday Check-In!

Hiya everyone! It's the start of a brand new week in the brand new year! How are you all doing?

I got on the scale this morning and saw another 2 lb GAIN. ARRGH!! Not altogether unexpected given my last week of eating, but it was still an eye opener. I am waaaay too close to the 190's now! My plan was to get back on track in P2, but now that the scale "yelled" at me, I decided to start P1 all over again. Yuck. I am not sure if I should do it for the full two weeks or not. Any suggestions? I'm going to review the P1 getting started posts again.

Today I have been eating only P1 foods, but haven't been good at all about veggies. Here is my day so far:

B: 2 egg omlette w/smoked salmon (think this is ok?) and about 1 tbl cream cheese; coffee w/milk
S: 2 lite string cheeses
L: so far I've had some nuts, and I'm on my way to get a salad underway.
S: celery w/laughing cow cheese
D: Haven't decided, but probably vegetable soup from last night. Maybe some spaghetti squash, too.
S: plain FF yogurt w/splenda and vanilla. I think I'll skip the peanut butter because of all the cheese I've had today

Hope you're having a good day today!

Hi Leslie. Sorry about the weight gain. Trust me when I say you are not the only one. If I were you, I would try P1 for about 3 to 4 days just to get any cravings under control that may have come back because of last weeks eating. I tend to eat p2 lite.

b: 2 eggs with spinach and feta

s: mozz stick

l: roasted chicken with grilled squash and zuchinni

s: 1 banana walnut oat ww muffin. (this turned out much better with the bananas. They are a lot moister then when I use blueberries. This is from the cookbook)

d: Roasted steak with onion and garlic.

Leslie:

It usually isn't necessary to do P1 for the full two weeks after the first time around...the first time around teaches you how to listen to your body and understand the difference between "cravings" and "cravings kicked." Our first time back to P1 after over-indulging in P2/P3 teaches us where our limits are and reminds us how to correct them...do P1 just long enough to get that "cravings kicked" feeling, and maybe a day longer for good measure, then move right along to P2 again.

I've found that when I'm backtracking, a strict P1 feels like a punishment for being "bad," which goes against the SBD philosophy. So what I do is plan to give myself one P2 or even P3 departure from the P1 plan (note that this was NOT how I approached my first P1, you really need to do it completely at least once to understand how your body reacts to sugar and feels when you are and are not experiencing cravings!!!), which makes it easier to stick to the stricter regimen the rest of the day. If I notice that a particular treat sets me back too far, I don't use that one anymore until I'm really back in its phase. I also find that breakfast sets the phase of the day...if I have a P1 breakfast, it's easier to handle the majority of the rest of the day's meals being P1, whereas having a P2 breakfast means I will be eating P2 the rest of the day.

I'm going to hang out with all you P2'ers if that's ok with you...I'm another re-starter, but I'm not doing a strict P1 this time around unless I absolutely have to. I'm doing what used to be referred to as P2 Lite around here...predominantly P1 meals/snacks, with the occasional foray into P2. For example, yesterday I did P1 until after lunch, when I planned and had an orange for snack and toasted whole grain pita with dinner.

So far today...

Breakfast: Whole Grain Total with skim milk (not great in terms of fiber, but lower in sugar than anything else in the cabinet and I didn't see any trans-fats on the label)

AM Snack: Peanuts and part-skim cheese wedge

Lunch: Leftover Indian tomato soup, salad w/ soynuts instead of croutons

PM Snack: Bite of BF's ice cream (OK, two, but they were very, very small!), 4 Hershey's kisses (now safely located on the other side of the floor), and two sourdough pretzels (no sugar, no trans-fat)

OK, so not having a great day for staying on track...probably because I still haven't bought a scale and am not sufficiently terrified of seeing the numbers jump tomorrow, lol!

Thanks for all the advice! I totally know what you mean about P1 feeling like a punishment. I even joined WW to avoid doing P1. LOL. But this time it feels less like a punishment and more like getting back to basics. Although, it could be my imagination, but I already feel the dreaded P1 headache coming on. I think I might let myself have a banana on days I work out. More motivation to work out! Do you think that would be ok, or would it negate the P1 concept since it's so sweet?

I also wanted to share my dinner with you guys. My DH got a new cast iron grill pan for Christmas, and he used it to make quesadillas for the kids. Since it was already hot, I decided to sautee some veggies. I sauteed onions til they were nice and carmelized, sliced yellow zuchinni, yellow wax beans and some bell peppers (they were already sliced from the veggie tray I made for our NYD party). I made so much that I didn't feel need to heat up the leftover ham I was going to have. I sprinkled a teeny bit of feta cheese and drizzled some olive oil and balsamic vinegar on top. It was SOOOOO good! I'm stuffed, too. It's the kind of dinner that necessitates a planned snack later though, as I'm sure I'll be hungry again before bedtime. LOL.

So I stayed totally on track on my first day of P1-strikes-again! LOL (I even resisted taking one taste of the dried cranberries I gave the kids)

Your veggie dish sounds great. I'm happy to report that I too stayed on the beach today. I'm hoping I don't get any cravings this evening or end up searching for something to eat. The evenings are my downfall.
