Soymilk vs. soy protein

Can anyone tell me the reasoning behind avoiding soy protein but not soy milk? I am trying to understand why the soymilk would be ok but not soy protein if used as an ingredient. I also use soy flour from time to time, now I wonder it that's verboten too.

Any insights appreciated~!

This is my real-life perspective on this. To me, it sounds like you really enjoy these drinks and they are not having any negative effect on you. I've heard interviews with Dr. Agaston where he says something along the lines of: We recommend that you stay away from this particular food but if it's a 'deal buster' then by all means make the decision that is right for you. In other words, if this is the one thing that is going to keep you from enjoying this way of eating, being successful reaching your goals, or is going to make you resent an otherwise healthy diet, then go for it. :)

This is a way of life, so you need to find your own groove. For me, one sip of any juice or smoothie type drink would make me miserable. So personally, I would stay away from them. If you enjoy them and tolerate it fine without ill effects (such as being hungry 20 minutes later) then you can decide to make that allowance. I have been successful on SBD so far without following it to the letter. For example, I do fine using regular cheeses in smaller quantities, but I know that this is one of the things I need to keep tabs on.

Give it some thought and make the decision that is right for you.

That is exactly why I posted about the Boca products - doesn't make any sense to me that you cannot add soy protein to your own foods (like a shake, if all other ingredients ARE apporved) yet a product with soy protein as the number one ingredient IS okay - totally contradictory in my opinion! I'd add soy protein to your shakes - if Boca can do it and gets a little blue seal on their package, why can't you?

Yes, that was exactly my point - it makes no sense to me that it is allowed as a main ingredient in one thing but not in another. I'll be interested to see if the new line of SB foods coming from Kraft include a smoothie type beverage, and if so what the main ingredients are!

A side note - I used to eat Boca a lot, pre-SB, and I was always ravenous after a Boca on Whole wheat. Turns out I have a wheat intolerance (discovered during Phase 1 of SB - I was suddenly without side effects such as skin rash and heartburn) and so now the Boca is off the list. Funny thing is - the Snapple-a-Day which I originally posted about does not make me hungry, in fact it is as filling to me as my usual breakfast of 1.5 eggs and 6 oz. veg juice.

Thanks for these comments. And I do agree we need to tweak things for ourselves, as long as we understand the principles and the rationale behind them.

I searched our archives here to see if there has been any past official info that might be of help.
